New Color D Day photos released. Cool amphibious car.

LIFE magazine released another batch of D Day color photos from their archives. Some are of the celebrations as towns got liberated.

The most interesting to me is what looks like an amphibious car. Note the boat shape. What the heck was it called? That’s not a jeep.

There’s also a rare photo of recently captured Germans. I haven’t seen many pictures of POW’s before. Doesn’t the Geneva Convention prohibit photos of them in a disrespectful manner? This photo is respectful.

I hope LIFE releases more from their archives.

Need one of those amphibious cars myself. :wink:

The US had a small amphibious troop carrier. A lot were sold as surplus. Hot Springs Ark takes tourists around in them on land and in the water.
