What is the big vehicle in this picture?

Here it is:

It looks like a PT-Boat with wheels. What use does this truck have?

it looks like a duck to me. Called DUKW in the military. it is used for rolling takeoffs into the water.

now they are primarily used for public tours.

DUKW. Almost the first reply.

“Go to the dells…see the ‘ducks’…”

And you can ride in one at the Wisconsin Dells:

The tires look bigger than the ones in the other pictures. Maybe that one is made for another purpose?

It’s not a DUKW, it’s a LARC. You can barely make out LARC above the left rear tire. A duck is a lot smaller.

In case you didn’t notice (I didn’t at first), there is a person standing by the front wheel in the OP’s picture. See how huge that thing is? That ain’t no duck.

Also at Boston Ducks (the first one, I think):

Quack!

And now in D.C., too:

Quack! Quack!

If you read the Dells Ducks story all the way to the end you’ll notice that the guy bought the ducks by LYING about his address!

Dishonesty can sometimes be the best policy.

LIB MR LARCs

Did that duck just ehco?

Of course not! Everyone knows a duck’s quack doesn’t echo!

Jesus those things are huge.

That’s what I said when she…oh, nevermind

And Seattle!

Quack! Quack! Quack!

Chattanooga Tennessee has a charming DUKW tour of the Cumberland River.

SEE?

They’ve made it across the pond, too; you’ll see a couple of the things running around London these days.

Quack! … quack! … quack! …

You can also ride 'em in Baltimore, hon!

Moooooo!

Pittsburgh!

Ribbit
(did anyone else notice the fuel consumption on the LARC?!(

20-40 Gallons per hour; speed=15 mph ground/7.5 mph sea.

Roughly 2 gallons per mile(!) on land, 4 gallons per mile at sea.

Almost as bad as my sports car!
