Just got a HP Envy dv6 yesterday. It’s beautiful, but already having an issue…
Sometimes it suddenly tells me I have a “limited connection” to the Internet, and it won’t connect. When I “troubleshoot problems”, the process takes forever, and then it tells me it doesn’t know what’s wrong. If I try to restart the computer while on limited connectivity, it won’t restart, but will go to the “restarting” screen and stay there, and I have to do a cold shutdown. For some reason, once the computer’s off, it manually disconnects from the Internet, and when I boot it up again, I have to reconnect it to WiFi so it’ll find my home network.
The problem’s not my home network, that’s fine. It has to be something with this computer. Ideas?
I think your home network has to be part of the problem. ‘Limited connection’ usually means “I can reach a network, but that network won’t give me an IP address or relay any of my data.”
Can you check the DHCP settings for your home network?
FWIW, the problem stopped generally. Now it only happens when I download multiple videos from Itunes at the same time. Came up with a great solution: download one at a time
Even though you’ve found a workaround for the problem, you ought to get the core problem resolved now, while your warranty is still good, and they’re less likely to blame you for the problem.
