Sort of. It’s based on a mod that’s been around for years, apparently, but now the developer is being paid for their work.
I never played it with the mod, but I played the CRAP out of MoM back in the day. I’ll probably pick it up.

This looks nice. Master of Magic is a classic 4X game and despite the ancient graphics, still holds up well from a game play perspective.
I never found a fantasy 4x strategy game after Master of Magic that could quite live up to it, though it is very dated by now. There was something about the way you could break the game in dozens of unique and different ways, or play a more normal game if you wished. I find many strategy games these days have a greater focus on balance and multiplayer, but you lose a lot of variety in exchange. If you give the player a lot of cool options, there’s bound to be some broken things, but that’s ok in a single player focused game.
If you like Master of Magic, I’d also recommend checking out the Fall From Heaven II mod for Civilization IV.
Master of Magic is something I remember playing in the 90s. Wow I used to love that game. I think it’s in my GOG library. Put this on my list of “things I’d like to play if I figured out how to stop time”.
I had a mod which made every single spell available to the player. That was fun!
I dumped so many hours into MOO and MOM in college and years after. Loved those games.
