Okay, so I’m now at my new job at the U, with a great computer, not on a server that has a firewall thick as concrete so…I downloaded/fired up Windows Media Player and man, this thing is freakin’ me out.
I am having the best time with it. I’ve got this green head as the skin (that was a new concept for me) and whenever I put in my CDs, it pulls up their play list, not to mention I can switch back and forth between internet radio (a good Toronot jazz station) and my CDs (currently playing: disk 1 of Bruce Hornsby’s “Spirit Trail”).
Plus, the visualizations you can pick are practically hypnotic as they pulse and move with the music. I really can’t keep it on top of my desktop cause my eyes get drawn to it too easily. Sheesh. I’m supposed to be learning PageMaker and this new toy isn’t helping.
Okay, I know I’m behind the times with this, but I don’t have a ‘puter at home and my last job didn’t even let me download MSN IM, for heaven’s sake! Anyone else out there like it or have a new fun toy that a beginner like I could use/enjoy? (and I ain’t talkin’ 'bout them there vibratin’ types of toys either!)
I have a little cat that runs around my screen, he’s pretty cute. His name is Felix of course, it’s just a little program that runs in the background. I shut it off if I need to actually task the puter, and let him run around when I can. Let me know if you want to try him out.
Hmmm, lots of people here are on AOL’s instant messenger program (AIM). I use both AIM and MSN.
aenea, freaky! I think Felix is on my computer. I haven’t run him that much (too much other playing going on) but I think I’ve got him! He’s cute. I have two cats at home. My furry little kids.
Of all things to lure me out of the woodwork, I never suspected it would be Felix. Just so’s you know . . .
I work at the Helpdesk for a Telco in the far north. I unfortunately have some experience with the adorable little demon. Felix is not allowed in the company because it has a memory leak in it. In other words, if you run Felix all day, it will eventually give you problems. They go away after you reboot, but sometimes the timing sucks. Gave us many problems in the accounting department trying to track it down.
To be fair, the author may have rewritten the program to eliminate that, but betcha not.
This isn’t an issue for many, as they underutilize their computers, but thought I’d let you know in case your PC starts doing some funny stuff. Or not doing stuff it’s supposed to.
The downloadable toys I play with tend to be heavily on the stress-relief side and may not be suitable . . . d’ya really NEED to put virtual machine-gun holes in your desktop? If so, let me know. I’ll check back.
Thanks for the tip about Felix. I use him on a puter that I don’t task much, so he give me no problems usually. And he’s easy enough to shut off. Pretty cute cat though!
Relic11, Felix was emailed to me by a friend. Yes, I know, never open a program sent via email, but in this case the source was trusted. So he came to me, and now he runs around on my desk. My hubby is allergic to cats, and we have a German Pinscher who would see them as prey, so no cats for me at home unfortunately. I can send him along if you would like to see him, just send an email to let me know.
