New 'Ghostbusters' Trailer.

The second trailer looked so much better than the first to me! Looking forward to it even harder now.

You could barely tell that film would be better than Battle Beyond the Stars.

The new, new trailer makes the movie look a lot funnier. It seems that Thor will be filling the role not only of Geneane, but also Dana.

Hm, I feel like in the first one they tried to put a bunch of jokes in the trailer, and they fell flat. In this one, they tried to put all of the special effects in, and their best joke. The one joke worked, but the special effects just make it look less impressive than Independence Day or other big spectacle movies.

I’m still not sold. I’d like to see some sense that the storyline isn’t taking a second place to skits and that the characters are working together as a team, rather than as a vehicle to one-up the others in the current skit.

I like it. They seem to be angling to show that the movie is tense and that the bad guys are scary.

It’s also a bit slow and cheesy, but I’d take that as being a product of its time.

The first Star Wars has more humor than the trailer, but I wouldn’t say that it’s too far off. The later movies are what really lightened the tone of the series. The first movie is largely a bunch of scenes from Akira Kurosawa and The Dam Busters, so it’s not like the underpinnings of the film were full of humor. Once Lucas was able to expand the story, that’s when he was able to start pulling in the more Flash Gordon-style adventure fluff.

I love Kate McKinnon and I want to have her babies.

I think you missed the point of that post. I wasn’t offering it as an example of a humorless trailer for a funny movie. I was offering it as an example of a really, really shitty trailer that utterly fails to make a case for the movie it’s advertising.

Weird–I’m in a serious minority here. The first trailer got a laugh outta me with “The power of PAIN compels you!”/“That’s gonna leave a mark.” bit, but the second trailer was just ok for me.

Yes, I understood that. And I responded to that view. In it’s time, that trailer was probably fairly reasonable. Trailer quality has improved over the decades. If you correct for the quality, they’re doing a fairly good job of selling the film for what it is.

I really want to love this film because I LOVE all the actresses (except Kristin Wiig, she does nothing for me) but I was not impressed by the second trailer.

I will go see it anyway, just to get more women-centric action films made. And, who knows - it may just be a bad trailer!

Its “Power of Patty,” I think.

Power of pain would’ve been funnier.

And, hey, here’s something weird: The IMDb page for the new Ghostbusters movie. Who’s mentioned first? Chris Hemsworth, who’s not even a Ghostbuster in the film. Then McCarthy, Wiig, and McKinnon. And then twelve more names before they get to Leslie Jones character.

What the fuck is up with that?

Looks to me like they took the advice of the “fixed” trailer and still winded up not making it look all that funny. I actually liked the first trailer better.

That said, I guess I’m at least now interested in the story a bit. So there’s that.

I mean, it’s not like I realized the first movie was a comedy when I first watched it. I was a kid who was a fan of the cartoon–I took that stuff seriously.

I noticed that, too. Here’s what the fuck is up with it:
Credited cast, sorted by IMDb STARmeter:
But that just begs another question. To wit: what the fuck is up with that?

It’s possible that they sort names by popularity by default, with the assumption that it will line up with the size of the role in the film. Of course, if that was true, I’d expect Harrison Ford to be at the top of the list for Apocalypse Now and he isn’t so…dunno.

Wow, that’s worse than the first trailer. Not only to do they show their hand as far as all the references to the original flick (so there’ll be no “haha! that was clever!” moments in the theatre), the pacing of this one is slooooooooooooow and it gives away the possession “save the [del]girl[/del]guy” plot line, solidifying the view that this is remake of the original.

This movie must suck if they feel the need to micro-encapsulize it for the trailer, IMO, since everyone pretty much already knows the story.

I checked IMDB and they list the line as “power of Patty”. Which is stupid. Earlier in this thread, I mentioned that the only thing that made me chuckle was the line “the power of pain compels you!” as she’s slapping the other lady in the face so I both thought it was “power of pain” and think that line is funnier (and makes more sense) than the actual line that’s in the film.

Could be that, as of right now, IMDB has only been provided a list of names and not an order; and, in that case, defaults to popularity; and, as soon as IMDB’s been provided with a list of names in order, it’ll display them in that order.

I don’t like the ghosts and effects that much judging by the trailer. It seems like a movie that was made to be seen in 3D, which doesn’t really bother me too much because I love watching 3D flicks, but it can overused.

I don’t understand the “Joke” about no one catching her when she stage dives. She says it’s either because she’s a woman, or black, no one held her up… must have been a race thing, because the other Ghostbuster stage dived just fine.

There looks to be a little action in this entry, I kind of liked that… Seeing one of them flat out punching a ghost. I also like the gadgets.

But I didn’t laugh once with either trailer… I kind of hoped they were keeping the good lines for the film.

So, I’ll see it. I’m sure it’s entertaining. I just wish it wasn’t the ‘Ghostbusters’… it sucks they shared the name for this seeming reboot of the original. When I ask someone if they’ve seen Ghostbusters, I don’t want to have to say; “the first one… the one with guys.”

When the movie comes out, they rearrange them into “credits order”. Until then, star power makes as much sense as anything for Hollywood.

One thing I noticed in this trailer is that most of the jokes get reactions from the characters, which not only flags each one as “hey, did you see what I did there?” but it ruins the comic timing. They aren’t funny because they’re painfully telegraphing where you’re supposed to laugh.

I am no fan of Paul Feig’s comedies, they are not funny for me at all, and this looks no different.

I hate how some movies are doomed from the start, even before they come out. Nobody gives a crap if the actual MOVIE is going to be good or funny or not, they’ve already deemed and judged it the worst movie EVER. To so many, it’s the worst even before it comes out and I cannot tell you how stupid and unfair I think that is…which is just more reasons why I hate people as a whole and think the world is doomed.

Oh, sure, it may really suck. It may come out and be a stinker when you watch it. BUT…I think–at least with SOME hundred people–that the case is going to be “they’re already so CONVINCED that they’re gonna hate it and that it’s going to be so terrible, that I think they might just really hate it”. I mean, if you go into a movie thinking, already, “It sucks and I hate it” and all through it you’re not even paying attention to it because all you’re doing is thinking “What a terrible movie” over and over, then chances are…yeah, you’re gonna hate it. Congratulations, you just self fulfilled a prophecy. You pre-hated it so much that you wound it really convincing yourself that you hate it even if there’s not really anything to hate it for.
Now of course, there may be plenty of reason to hate it, because it may actually be bad…and no doubt there will be (the majority, in fact) many people who disliked it because they thought it was crap. But you cannot convince me there will be more than few people in the group I described above too.

So, really, in essence, this movie has already bombed big time. It never really had a chance.

Secondly, the new trailer that came out has got to have the Streisand Effect going on at least a little bit. After the news did a story about how the first one was the most disliked Youtube video of all time, you know there had to be a good hundred, at least, who saw that, went there, and jumped on the boat…probably not because they even watched the trailer, but just to be a part of the history-making/record-breaking group, so most probably followed suit with the second trailer.

I’m not saying it isn’t a truly horrible trailer that doesn’t deserve being disliked, just that you know there’s got to be at least one that’s like “haw haw, first one got a record amount of dislikes, so now we can see if we can do it with this one too”, not even having an opinion of the trailer either way.
