Yeah, it’s gonna be a flop.

Not necessarily. I remember some cases of internet anger that never panned out. The “Jurassic World is going to destroy my childhood and this trailer is crap” thing, the anger at Ant Man when Edgar Wright was fired, the people getting livid at all the Minions exposure…
Even the widely panned Gods of Egypt isn’t doing that bad.
Sure, there’s enough hostility that it’s probably not going to be a blockbuster- but definitely is not completely dead yet.
I haven’t really been following this other than hearing about it being remade and starring all women in the lead roles. From the way it started, I assumed it was going to be a followup where the original team existed but not involved in any way in the story.
I would’ve preferred a The Next Generation type story rather a redo of the original. Either way, I’ll likely see it.
Just glancing at the comments (I don’t have the stomach to do more than glance), it sure looks like an awful lot of that hate is simply because the movie has an all-female Ghostbusting team. The term “feminist propaganda” comes up repeatedly. That misogynist trolls on the Internet are upset about this movie is unsurprising.
You’re actually trying to base an argument on YouTube up votes?
Dude, no. Just… no.
You are stronger-stomached than me. The all-fremale cast is pretty awesome. I just wish they did better. I’ll probably see it anyway.
It’s the “New Democracy”. Who needs elections or analysis? Just spew the crazy in the comments section of your favorite blog and tally up the numbers.

Wow, that was a good trailer. Previously, I had no interest in Suicide Squad as I assumed is was going to be just another comic book superhero movie, but now I am intrigued. It looks like it might be a fun action movie.
I have seen “feminist agenda” comments a number of times now regarding this film. Does anyone know the genesis of this meme? It just seems odd…

On the one hand, I understand that she’s prolly thrilled to be in a major motion picture and even more thrilled because it’s a reboot of a pop culture touchstone.
On the other hand, it’s difficult for me to understand that anyone can’t see the obvious implications of the racial minority sidekick, especially with the gender reversal from the original movie.
On the gripping hand, what’s she gonna do, start slamming the movie months before it’s release and thus doom her own career over a decision she already made and carried thru?
On the other gripping hand (), I still think this looks kinda crappy but I agree with Boyo Jim that the 2nd slap and the line “The power of pain compels you!” were pretty funny.
D-listers?!? :eek:Will Smith? Jared Leto? :dubious:
I’m pretty certain that was referring to the characters, not the actors. Apart from supporting roles from The Joker and maybe Batman, the characters in this one are almost entirely unknown. People have maybe heard of Harley Quinn, but only if they have seen one of the animated shows.
OK, I guess. Why the fuck is HQ in there? She has *no powers at all. *
Neither does Batman, but that doesn’t stop him from being an effective superhero. And Joker a super villain. Why not Harley, too?
I thought it was good enough. Not Mad Max: Fury Road trailer amazing, but not Batman V Superman trailer bad either.
Personally though, I’m a bit sad that Sony couldn’t really get anyone from their wishlist for the movie. The studio originally wanted Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Lizzy Caplan, Amy Schumer, and Rebel Wilson. Ellie Kemper and Aubrey Plaza were floated at various times too.
But they wanted Melissa McCarthey too and they got her, so maybe it’ll all work out.
I bet the black chick gets snubbed by the oscars.
No justice, no peace.
In what way is that a better list of talent than the cast they have? Lizzy Caplan from Freaks and Geeks? Ellie Kemper whose most notable role is the moderate entertaining Kimmy Schmidt? And I hate to break it to you but Emma Stone has been about as funny as a wet dishrag in everything since Easy A. Amy Schumer is at least funny but mostly by playing an oversexed and self-absorbed sorority girl type, basically either exaggerated version of herself.

Most of the Suicide Squad doesn’t, and those who do have decidedly small-potatoes powers at best.
That’s your go-to reference for Lizzy Caplan? A 16-yo minor cult hit that she wasn’t even in the main cast of? Not heard of Mean Girls? Cloverfield? Masters of Sex?
Sorority girl? Wtf? Look, you may not like her but she’s kind of the best known female standup right now.
Yeah, definitely an A-list comedienne, not like Wiig or McKinnon.
Sure, she’s got a good standup routine, and Trainwreck (again, playing an exaggerated version of herself) was a surprise success, but her ability to act in a role that is not based on her experience is not established or in any way assured. Compared to Wiig who has twenty-odd film credits and McKinnon who is already well-acknowledged as doing of the best celebrity impressions and improvisational comedy in recent memory, it is begging the question as to why there is better “dream casting” than what was selected. It’s like asking George Coe and Alan Zweibel cast for the original Ghostbusters.
