I think this was supposed to debut on Halloween, but I didn’t hear anything about it (read: Buzzfeed didn’t have a thingy on it), so did anybody read it? Is it good? What’s the deal with Umbridge?

Exactly. I was sucked into reading it, because the headline characterized it as a “tale.” I kept waiting for something to happen, but no soap. All the way through I kept finding myself muttering to the little J. K. Rowling in my head (who always listens to what I have to say :D): I don’t mean to tell you your business, Miss, but did you ever hear of the principle of "Show, don’t tell’?
I also caught a whiff of small-minded pettiness in the tone of the bio. And she (quite without justification, IMHO) did a switch of the tense back and forth between past and present.
Also: Since she was sorted into Sytherin House, one wonders why she never aspired to membership in the Death Eaters. Or why Ms Rowling didn’t even bring up her House or relationships with the D-E’s in this profile.
Nothing that revealing or worth reading other than her mixed ancestry.
I’d like to learn more about Minerva McGonagall: has there been a love of her life, for instance? Or what does she do when she’s not at Hogwarts?
She wrote McGonagall’s backstory awhile ago. Along with Lupin, Lockhart, Trelawney, Quirrell, the Malfoy and Olivander families, and Nicolas Flamel. There’s even a little bit about Aunt Petunia and Uncle Dursley and how they met. There’s also information on various places, objects, creatures, etc.
(Seriously, join Pottermore, it’s a little silly, but if you’re a big Harry Potter fan, the information is worth it.)
