I’m in the process of organizing my music library by genre. When it comes to New Jack Swing, I have some questions about which of these songs you all would put into the category. Of course the main entries would be the late 80s and early 90s music from Bobby Brown, Bell Biv Devoe, Ralph Tresvant, Color Me Badd, the music from Janet Jackson’s Control album, and so on. My question involves some other songs that might or might not fit in, and I’m seeking opinions on the issue. Here is the list.
Paula Abdul’s Straight Up, Forever Your Girl, and Coldhearted.
Johnny Kemp’s Just Got Paid
Nenes Cherry’s Buffalo Stance
Milli Vanilli’s Don’t Forget My Number and Girl You Know It’s True.
The music from the late 80s and early 90s by Ton Loc and M. C. Hammer.
Some or possibly all of these might not be included in the category by those who know the music well. Obviously I’m not an expert, but would like to learn more about this genre. Feel free to also discuss other songs that I didn’t mention that would also be debatable for inclusion in the New Jack Swing category.
