New Jersey... Anyone out there?

Wow, I thought this thread looked familiar. Talk about resurrection.

I’d just like to add that for all you New Jersians that want that NJ feel but can’t stand the brutal summers, come to Eastern Washington.

Sure the people talk oddly, don’t drive as fast (although the speed limit is 70 outside the cities and 60 within), nor are they nearly as rude, but the weather is roughly the same, excepting that the summers aren’t nearly as humid.

Of course, it’s not quite as centrally located to everything, but my favorite part of NJ was always the mountains and the abundantly hidden areas of natural wonder, which E WA is chock full of also.

Still, I’ve got family back there still and I’m looking forward to visiting soon. All I know is that it won’t be during July or August

I’ve lived in Morristown NJ all my life, though I am now going to college in PA near Philly. I really like NJ and will probably end up living there after college. If nothing else, NJ is the weirdest state.

sigh Reluctant NJ resident…Cherry Hill. :frowning: All shopping centers, all the time.

But I think it’s safe to say that those of us in the ‘856’ area code over you ‘other’ Jerseyans…

Yo. I’m from all over New Jersey. I’ve lived way down Cape May way, greater Rutgersland, and now the Frozen North. Hey zev_steinhardt, I currently live in Rockaway. Did it suck as much in the 70’s as it does now?

Born in Waldwick, grew up in Dumont, lived in Ridgewood and Washington Township (the northern one). Indianapolis for the last twelve years. Miss the ocean and the pizza. Going back is fun. It’s like walking into a De Niro-Pesci movie. Those people do talk funny. AND LOUD.

Cool beans, I’m sitting in my nice apartment on Cedar Street in Boonton, NJ right now

From Bergen County, am so f*cking glad I left. There’s no place to live for kids just out of college, you’ve got to be a rich person to buy a house there. So kids graduate and live with their parents!!! BLAH!

Still a Bergen County resident, even though I went to college in Arizona, am currently in North Dakota, and am moving to Montana this summer. I miss Ramsey.

Oh, and uh GO DEVILS!

I live at the Jersey Shore.
My family has lived in New Jersey since 1665. I love New Jersey. It is beautiful where I live. It is my home. Those of you who belittle New Jersey know not of what you speak.

shuffles into thread

So. Hi. Yeah. From Jersey. Reluctantly, as NinjaChick said.

(Actually, just visited your homepage and did a searh on ya, NinjaChick, to see if you were someone I know. Unfortunately not, so I send a “Hello” over to ya!)

Me too, although I think I spent more time on the bus stuck on George Street that I did in class.

I was born in Elizabeth, moved to Hazlet at 11, and I am now living happily in Red Bank and working in Manasquan. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Paperblob, weird. I was also born in Willingboro and moved to Mt. Laurel.

Syracuse was playing lacrosse against Rutgers yesterday and one of my friends’ favorite taunts was “You’re from Jersey!” Yeah, at least we have electric lights. Silly Central New Yorkers.

Its’ really annoying that everyone thinks the entire state looks like Newark Airport. That’s like comparing Buffalo to New York City. Geez.

Also born in Morristown. Managed to escape when I was nine…

New Jersey is a great place to be from.

Lived in Union until 19, live in california now. The weather is far nicer here, but I think the people were better there.

One odd thing I’ve noticed is the reversal of housing prices. In NJ (at least the north east section), the farther away from NY you were, in general, the more expensive the housing was . In the bay area at least, the closer you are to SF, the more expensive. People here commute from 70 or more miles away just to be able to afford a house.

…beachwood(ocean county)

I live in Newark and lemme just say, I’m not appreciating the hateration. Brick City is the largest city in New Jersey. That should count for something. Oh yeah, and all those bricks.

I am not from NJ. But I love the place. I like the amber waves of Phragmites (the brown grass you see everywhere, especially when you’re on driving through the Meadowlands). I like the diners. Tops Diner in East Newark. Willy’s in Bloomfield. I like the people, like the loudmouth, big-haired ladies who cuss their kids out in the K-Mart. And don’t forget the crazy-ass pedestrians in Newark who jump out in the street when they see fit.

Awright Jersey!

I grew up in Convent Station, then Mendham, then New Vernon, which is between Chatham and Morristown.

I went to Delbarton on Route 24 between Morristown and Mendham.

Spent a LOT of time at the Dublin Pub in Mo-Town.

Anybody remember the “Final Exam?”

Grew up in Chester - moved to Randolph after I graduated college - moved to Florida 2 1/2 years later.

Susan

Funny, that’s what my brother always says.

Grew up in Burlington. Haven’t been back in ages, but I’m planning on taking my wife there to show her my roots…it might explain a few things to her regarding my behavior.

Anybody ever heard of Takaboost??
Man this thread is old!

NO KIDDING! It’s so rare to meet someone from the same tiny town in NJ that my family is from. My family has lived in Boonton since the early 40’s. My grandfather ran the movie theater on Main Street during the 60s and early 70s – I think it’s called the Darress Theater now. My aunt is the town clerk.

I live in DC now, but we visit Boonton often – was actually just up there last week for a funeral :frowning: but I was able to get some Reservoir Tavern pizza while I was there.

Anyway, I love Boonton, wish I could move back up and raise my future kids there. Love the old neighborhoods, old houses, main street (no main streets like that in NoVa), but I just like open space a bit more than northern NJ offers.
