While I have a carnivorous habit my new lady friend is a vegetarian. When we go out she is happy if the place has a veggieburger and sweet potato fries.
I am starting to feel guilty because her dining choices are limited while mine are not. It will be one month that we have been dating in early December and I would like to take her to a vegetarian restaurant where we will both be able to eat.
Some previous vegetarian recommendations [=board_name%3ANew+Jersey&boardgroup=United+States&c=topics|posts#!q=vegetarian&o=rank&start=0&c=topics|posts&time_option=all&boardgroup=United+States&s=board_name%3ANew+Jersey"]here](http://www.chow.com/search?q=vegetarian&s[).
I hate “vegetarian” food that just substitutes tofu or some processed vegetable protein for the meat in a dish. Instead, I’d prefer a cuisine (Indian, Italian) that has dishes that are vegetarian by nature. There are supposedly many Indians in and near Iselin, so there will be many Indian restaurants in the area, some of which are pure vegetarian.
I’ve eaten at the Triumph Brewing Company in Princeton (we had a doper meeting there once) and it’s a very nice place. It’s not vegetarian but it does have vegetarian meals on the menu.
Not eating pizza while in NJ is basically a crime against humanity.
(Living in Atlanta, it really is the one thing I miss most about Jersey - well, that and family and the beach… but they are decidedly down the list! ;))
Yeah. You might as well live in Iowa and order cardboard slop from Domino’s. My favorite local pizza is Forte’s. They have vegetarian options. How about a Greek place? You could go for the tzatziki, various types of hummus, pita bread, a Greek salad and a nice spanikopita.
I’m not sure how different you’re willing to go, but if you get up to Montclair, there’s an awesome Ethiopian restaurant called Mesob. Not strictly vegetarian, but they have a whole vegetarian (vegan, actually) menu to go along with their meat dishes.
If you’re in Monmouth County, there are loads of restaurants with Vegetarian options in New Brunswick, plus many South Asian options in Edison/Iselin. You’re probably in one of the best areas in the US for vegetarians.
If you are willing to go all the way to Sparta then you should have no problem going to New Hope Pa like I mentioned above. It will take you half as long to get there.
Also in Red Bank is JBJ Soul Kitchen. It is Jon Bon Jovi’s restaurant that you can either pay for or donate time to. They always have a vegetarian option. I don’t know how good it is but it would be good for the experience.
Via45 in Red Bank has vegan and vegetarian options. The Good Karma Cafe is vegan and in Red Bank.
Basically any area that has a quirky vibe will have vegetarian options. Red Bank is a good area for that. The many of the river towns, New Hope, Lambertville, Frenchtown, Stockton, Milford are good too.
In Frenchtown try Cocina Del Sol for Tex Mex. Or The Bridge Cafe (very nice view of the Delaware).
