New Kings of Leon CD/Release: Strong Buy Rating

Really? I am the first to comment on it?

The band Kings of Leon released their new CD, Only by the Night (Amazon link here) a bit ago.

As is stated in the Amazon review:

The fact that the songs are “more commercial” comes through in that the overall songcraft had been kicked up a notch. This is a solid-from-end-to-end CD that has stayed in my kitchen CD player for a few days now and not worn out its welcome.

I don’t have time to go into a ton of detail here, sorry - but if you like straight up blues-based rock that has other elements to it - a bit of synth here, a bit of My Bloody Valentine distortion there - so it is accessible but not entirely predictable, then you will LOVE this CD. I have listened to all of their earlier stuff and found it okay - I think this is their breakthrough as a band and I will be paying much closer attention from now on…

My $.02

I’m a big fan of the album as well. Definitely the best and most cohesive thing they’ve done. When I first heard “Sex on Fire” on the radio, I jumped up in my seat and said, “That’s a great song.”

(FWIW, I had the same reaction, i.e. great album, best thing they’ve done so far, pay more attention, to the Black Keys’ latest album, Attack and Release. Just throwing it out there.)

Agreed - Attack and Release is great. As is the Raconteurs’s 2nd CD - these all fit together in a noisy-but-tuneful sort of way…

Really? No love for the Kings?
