I heard before they’re not as popular in the US as they are here. Every stinkin’ radio this past year and a half has been spewing their catchy brand of stadiumish rock. I’m getting a little sick of them even though I like a number of their songs. Has Sex On Fire threatened your sanity yet?
I just recently started listening to a local radio station a couple days ago after not listening to radio for about 10 years and have heard one of their songs approximately 15 times. And I think I’ve only had the radio on for about 3 hours total. It’s the song that consists entirely of the word “somebody.”
This post brought to you by: Hyperbole.
I was a fan of Kings of Leon several years ago, before they became really popular. But I do not like their new material and I am quite annoyed with their new sound.
That “somebody” song sucks donkey dick. But they have some really great songs from their earlier albums. “Taper Jean Girl” and “Pistol of Fire”, “Slow Night, So Long” and “Joe’s Head” come to mind.
Nope, not yet.
The only song I’ve heard by them so far is Use Somebody, because they play that song on all my favorite radio stations 563462.4 times a day. I used to like the song at first but needless to say I’m pretty sick of it now to the point that I’d rather turn off the radio. I hope they come out with another single soon, it feels like Use Somebody has been playing forever.
I guess not. I’ve vaguely heard of the band, but have no idea if I’ve ever heard any of their songs.
I know ALL of Jesus’s songs!
Instead of waiting for a new song from them (which won’t be good) just buy their old albums.
I think they have. When they did a recent swing through the midwest, it seems like there were an inordinate amount of facebook statuses about going to see them, getting tickets, wishing they had tickets, etc. Maybe it’s just being in my early 20s, but they are “the next big thing.”
The recent assent is weird to me, because I am not someone who is up on music, and I saw them in a small club back in 2005. I also saw them open for U2 just before that, so it seems like they should have gotten really hot here back then.
I hope not. Horrible trashy music.
The whos of whatnow?
Never heard of them.
Admittedly I don’t follow music much, but this is the first I’ve heard of them.
I’ve seen them on several late night shows. They never made enough impression on me to remember who they are or what song they played so I’m not much help. But at least I knew the name.
I know more of Jesus Jones’ songs than Jesus’, though.
I would have to guess not - I have not heard of them. I’m old and out of it, but back when the Beatles said that - even the old folk *knew *of them, whether they liked them or not.
Saw them in concert a few weeks ago and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I like both their old and new stuff but they’ve definitely cleaned up their act and are approaching shows with a professionalism that was sorely lacking a few years ago.
Within the ever-diffusing world of rock music, they are making a relatively big splash finally within the U.S. The problem is that with media being so narrow-casted there are fewer unifying channels of access that lead to common, group popularity. Exactly why Michael Jackson was so lauded - “he was the last truly global phenomenon, etc.” You don’t have to agree with that statement literally to appreciate the intent.
Anyway, songs like Use Somebody and Sex on Fire have gotten a lot of play, but they aren’t U2 or any classic rock band in terms of popularity. I wish 'em luck - I hear that they can be rock-star bastards at times, but that album deserves the attention - it is end-to-end solid with great, interesting rock songs. It is hard to sound fresh while working within the boundaries of rock and commerciality and this album does a great job of that, all IMHO…
I can hear them playing on VH1 in the next room as I type this.
You may fight a lot of people on this board haven’t heard of them because they aren’t an obscure indie rock band their friend found on MySpace.
I think I might have heard of them. Then again maybe not.
I don’t really listen to much music anymore though, but when I do I’m stuck in the classic rock genre, or perhaps some folky type stuff.
They’re all over the radio here and I hate, hate, hate them. I hope this isn’t considered thread shitting; you did say you’re getting a little sick of them yourself.
I don’t mind that they’re top 40 pop/rock or whatever. I wouldn’t even mind the fact that one is in danger of hearing them at any time or place as they’re on pretty much all the stations. But the lead singer’s braying ass of a voice . . . does something to me:mad: I’ve even considered starting a pit thread about them, so deep is my loathing, but I think it’s out of my system now. Thanks, An Gadaí!
I have heard of them. But have never heard anything they’ve recorded.
I think I only recognize the name of the band because of music advertised in Best Buy ads.
No, I don’t consider this threadshitting. I’m genuinely curious because it is rare that a band is huge here and then becomes big in the US. The cultural wave is usually the other way. They’re an American band but they staked their claim to fame here and across Europe earlier than in the US. I believe the same is true for a few other bands the last few years, The Killers is one I think. I got one of their albums in 2002 as a present. I wasn’t too big into it but some of the songs were nice. The next I saw of them they were stadium monsters with a completely different look and fairly different sound, more stadium rock than the country rock of earlier record.
