Interesting. My patience, it is being sorely tested. I am starting to think - and I know, this is almost heresey - that the kittens mentioned in the O.P. do not actually exist. See, it appears that silenus is conducting a little experiment. silenus posts up an O.P. that immediately brings out the oooglies in we cat/kitten lovers and then…teases us. I tell you, it’s enough to shake my faith in human beings. Almost. 
Anyone willing to let me drop an adorable cat pix on their website so I can link it up in here? I don’t have a way to share, and gosh I have some good shots of the kitties.
Now then. For more sober talk. I’ve never had a cat that stank. Seriously. I’ve lived with…uh…Cocoa, Scooter, Sasha, the 3 Cats Of The Night that we found abandoned at birth in college and raised, Aragorn, Shadow, Lucia, Bumper, Ashley, Bogart, Lightning, Thunder and Dobby. -whew- Lotta cats. All types- but always 100% indoor animals. They clean themselves.
We DO use a curry brush, have always used the same type. It does a lovely job of A) massaging their skin, B) dislodging dry or dead skin, C) getting loose fur off and D) cleaning off dust and dirt that is in their fur and against their skin.
This type of brush ( we use the bottom of the two shown ) yields great results. The cats aaaaaaadore the feeling of being brushed. Cats that shed little will lose little. Cats that shed a lot- especially in hot months- will shed paddleful after paddleful, while purring at full bore. If you have not indulged your cat with this, you and kitty are missing a great pleasure.

The adult cats I’ve had were all indoors and rarely needed baths except when they had fleas. (I’ve never lost a drop of blood in the process either.) But I’ve had lots of foster kitties who were too young to know how to bathe themselves (or had diarrhea) and they were stanky. They all got baths in the sink. Cute li’l suckers, but not happy.

As a foster mother to more kittens than I can count, I have bathed many a kitten. I’m damn sure not cleaning them the way their mother would! I would run an inch or two of very warm water in the sink and the kittens would paddle around with nary a complaint. I guess not having their mothers around to tell them cats don’t like water worked in my favor.
Cartooniverse, your Dobby looks like my Gweniever did when she was a kitten. We called her the Hawaiian Bat Cat.

You have a shoulder-cat, too, huh? My torbie is like that… it makes you feel so loved, huh? (and eventually, you even get used to the pinholes in your shoulder and shirts - badges of love, those.)
I apologise for the use of the “huh” in my last post. It shouldn’t have shown up even once, let alone twice. Jeez. You’d think I was eight years old. :smack:
