Poor kitty had an abscess burst. Got back from emergency vet about an hour ago. They gave her an antibiotic shot which is good for two weeks and us a supply of strong painkiller.
Looks ugly, but with proper treatment should heal up fine.
I send pats to the pretty kitty (to be applied on uninjured portions of her anatomy.)
ah, poor girl. i had 2 cats burst on me. it is horrifying! nod was about 10ish days old and malenka was about 5ish days old.
i hope your girl recovers easily and is more comfortable now.
I hate how bad things happen to such lovely innocent creatures. I was just admiring how cute Holiday is and then came across the pic of her injury. Here’s hoping the poor kitty heals quickly!
You had kittens that young who had abscesses?!
my mum found nod yelling her head off outside in the alley way. when cleaning nod up after she got wet food all over the place, the washcloth brushed a spot on her side and boom! vesuvius! of course, this was sunday at around 5pm and no vet open. i cleaned her up, called the emergency line for our regular vet. i was at the door first thing monday morning, and nod spent 4 days at the vet getting the wound cleaned up. it was a puncture wound. vet’s theory was she was bitten by one of the many cats in the alley. nod spent the next 12 years with us.
malenka, oh boy. our neighbour captured her mother from the same alley and took her to a shelter. they did not know that there was a kitten. later that night around 8pm the little one was screaming her lungs out. thankfully we were able to locate her and she was about 3 days old. really, really, young. eyes closed, bear claw feet. i stayed up all night (with the help of the sdmb) keeping her hydrated and warm. at the vets as soon as they opened. a few days later her eyes started to open and what i thought was a normal eye crusty turned out to be an infection. when i wiped her eyes boom! vesuvious! i was scared i exploded her eye. call to vet. vet visit. infection clear out. no damage to her eyes. another keeper after huge vet bills.
thankfully your holiday is older and easier to treat with antibiotics and pain meds.
Thank you for rescuing! Older cats sometimes survive abscesses on their own. Those kittens stood no chance without help.
Holiday is looking better and is now with the vet for dental surgery. Received estimate when she was dropped off and it’s lower than I had anticipated. She’ll also be chipped in case she sneaks out the front door.
i was wondering how she was doing. hope all goes well at the vet.
Yes, update us please about how surgery went when you get a chance.’
She came home almost six hours ago.
Surgery, although extensive, went well. A total of nine teeth were removed: two broken canines, both of which had abscesses, one broken incisor, and six molars/premolars with resorption & bone loss.
Poor cat! her mouth must have been hurting for so long. I bet she’ll be amazed when the surgery heals and the pain stops.
Thank you for doing this.
our best wishes.
Wow! Poor girl. Things will be much better for her now.
She’s been hiding behind the couch again and somehow got trapped back there, as in got in but couldn’t figure how to get back out. So I moved a piece of furniture, which is really a giant cat bed at this point, back toward the balcony window where it belongs – problem solved!
The kitties had their breakfast and Holiday is now resting on the coffee table; I guess she won’t be needing her safe space behind the couch any time soon.
awww, confident kitty. how is her abscess area?
As if nothing other than a missing tooth ever happened.
that is great! healing goes so fast when the infection is gone.
Our adopted cat had eleven teeth removed a few months ago. It took a couple of weeks for everything to heal up, but the pain after surgery was likely nothing compared to the pain of bad teeth. She’s a much happier kitty now.
