New Lady Gaga Song "Judas"

You can hear it here http://www.vevo.com/watch/lady-gaga/judas-audio/USUV71100684

“Born This Way” initially got a lot of flak, although it certainly has grown on a lot of people, myself included. This one seems to be going in the opposite direction and getting near universal praise from what I can gather here a day into its release. I concur that it sounds great.

I know there were a lot of detractors on this board the last time around. How do you all feel about this one?

Thanks for the head’s up. I am not sure exactly how I feel about this song but I know I like it much more than Born this Way. It sounds interesting unlike Born this Way which was boring. Also interesting that this is the second song with a religious undertone. I wonder if that is just a coincidence or something more.

I am a raging Lady Gaga fan. AFAIC she is Madonna incarnate, which is the highest compliment I could possibly pay her because Madonna is the single most influential artist of my life. I don’t comprehend how anyone could not immediately recognize that everything Lady G touches is full of win, but then Madonna had her detractors as well.

In short, I love it.

This makes me happy. When “Born This Way” came out, I was concerned that Lady Gaga had lost her touch. But this song is much better.

I was somewhat disappointed with Born this Way also–it’s catchy and I like the message, but completely derivative and too preachy.

I don’t know how I feel about Judas–I might have to listen to it a few times before I start liking this. (This happens with every Lady Gaga song for me–I didn’t like Alejandro or Bad Romance the first times I heard them either. I think the only song I really loved on the first try was “Teeth.”)

It sounds promising, so I’ll try listening a few more times.

I loved Alejandro when it first came out-- I think it’s my repressed Ace of Base fangirl that makes me such a fan of it. One thing I’ve enjoyed about Lady Gaga throughout the past couple of years has been that it’s musical cotton candy with sounds that reference a lot of the stuff I liked as a kid. This new one’s good, but there are other songs from The Fame that I prefer more, like Summerboy. It’s the kitschy feeling that I go for when listening to her music.

Uh-huh. Y’know, Madonna isn’t bad. But she’s a showman (woman) and not an artist. She certainyl doesn’t excercise much influence over the music world, and in fact she’s always been derivative rather than original in that regard. She’s good at what she does, but I wouldn’t gush like that.

You don’t have to understand why I love Madonna. You don’t have to love Madonna. I love Madonna, and I will ALWAYS love Madonna, and I am ingood company.

Not sure if like.

I’m beginning to think that Gaga is possibly the biggest troll in the history of music. Crosses all over the place? A song that explictly says she’s in love with Judas (Jesus is my virtue but I’m still in love with Judas? Really?) Album cover artwork that’s going to be the most metal album cover artwork ever mainstreamed?

It’s like she was designed to raise the hackles of social/religious conservatives. You know, like when your mom told you to stop listening to that “demon music”? Like that, except Gaga is actually pop and is actually getting played on the radio.

The song itself… Judas! Ju da - a - as Gaga. is… odd.

So… not sure if like. >.>

This is getting a hugely mixed reception from the online pop community (the album cover seems to be getting a completely negative reception but I really like it!).

I love ‘Judas’ and think it could end up among my very favourite Lady Gaga songs (‘Paparazzi’ is my all-time favourite). I wrote a review here which more than doubled my previous record for most pageviews in one day - the power of Gaga!

She is a huge troll - but so was Madonna, and trolling worked out really well for her.

I think Born This Way, the album, is going to be fantastic but I feel it might get a mixed critical reaction which may lead to a backlash - I suppose we’ll see in a few months.

I don’t want to get into how original or influential she is, but since when is showmanship not art?

Wow, this changes its sound a lot. There’s some Ace of Base in there, some Madonna, some New Order, a splash of Eurythmics, or maybe Shakespears Sister, and 1980’s/90’s arcade games. It just keeps mutating.

I love it! She’s also trolling the srs bizness music fans and it’s amazing. Every time a music lover decries the state of the industry she eats a kitten.

I’ve never been much of a Goon or /b/tard, but Gaga has shown me the light.

I love her. And I’m not ashamed to admit it. I love everything she’s ever done. And I don’t even like Madonna.

Meh. It sounds like album filler to me. I loved Poker Face and Bad Romance but I doubt this’ll be a hit.

Total album filler. The song is about ntohing but being in love with Judas and it seems like she’s just trying to lazily be controversial. The song sounds like someone ripping off Gaga more than it sounds like Gaga. Listen to the intro of Bad Romance and then Judas if you don’t know what I mean.

I’ve listened 3 times, as I have every other Lady Ga Ga single. Much like the others, the music still sounds like it was made on a Casio keyboard. Juda-a-Ga-Ga? Lame.

While not my cup of tea, I will listen again when she releases another single in hopes that I may someday understand the hoopla surrounding her. In the meantime, she is doing kick-ass things for local economies when she tours, so I hope she continues to gain more followers.

For anyone having trouble with VEVO’s site (like me), here’s the official YouTube release.

My impression: meh. The actual music still sounds generic. It’s still the sound I associate with the 90s and Madonna, even if neither actually had songs like this.

That said, I think I get her. The best way to get it is to look at her new comic. It feels like the same fascination with weird stuff that happened in the 70s, but, instead of it being about drugs, it’s about rejecting heteronormativity. And yet it’s being led by what appears to be a cisgendered female. (I even suspect she’s straight.) If I liked the 90s music better, it would be interesting.

Here’s a text review on the comic. Linkara from TGWTG has a video review if you’d prefer, but he judges it very harshly, so it’s a little hard to get an idea of what it is. Listen to his girlfriend Iron Liz’s review to help balance it out and get a lot more into the heterormativity stuff.

She’s releasing another single soon. Judas just recently came out!

when it’s played in a car driving down the road. Stefani Germanotta’s product mix of showmanship and music relies heavily on showmanship to the point she’s already stolen a Madonna song that would easily fail in a court challenge. The amount of time invested in creating the persona of Lady Gaga has to come out of the time spent creating music. Clearly she enjoys the visual aspect of it but IMO it’s already hurting her music.
