New Mac 8in. Cube

Anyone herd about the new Mac toaster? If you have, share you opinions in pros and cons and weather or not you feel it’s as good as it’s cracked up to be.

Odd that you should use the word “cracked”, as there was recently some controversy over whether little hairlines in the clear plastic were “plastic mold lines,” as Apple claimed, or actual bona-fide cracks. Don’t know if it’s been resolved, but nobody’s reported whole sides of their computer falling off or anything!

Thing about the Cube is, it seems a little pricey for the features it has. It’s more easily expandable than an iMac, but you’ll still never be able to add a PCI card of any sort. Some people have concluded it’s a computer meant for people who want something small, stylish, quiet (no fan), non-fruit colored, and are willing to pay a little more for it. Just today I saw one with the little round clear speakers and the 22-inch LCD display… looks stunning! But mucho dinero, especially for the monitor. Once I have the money, I’ll probably spring for a G4 tower instead, but don’t get me wrong, I’d take a Cube any day.

There’s talk that before long, there’ll be a new version of the Cube, which might be a bit more reasonably priced. Only rumors for now, though.

Good sites to watch for news and views:

http://www.macfixit.com (for technical support news)

I wouldn’t get one, but if I wanted to, I’d wait until the next model revisions come out. You’ll probably get a better deal then. Price is a consideration for this baby, especially since you’ll also need to fork over some extra moolah for the monitor.

Anyway. Speaking of model revisions, I read at MacFixit that there may be iMacs with a CD-RW drive coming out soon (and about freaking time, too).
