This is not a re-tread, per se. This is a re-imagining (which could be awful, but I will withhold judgment for at least a couple of episodes). This series is set in present-day Paris, and Maigret is a younger man, although apparently already a Chief Inspector. He is also already married to Mme. Maigret, thank heavens. There will be Juges d’Instruction for him to clash with, and the general preference for conformity for him to buck. Maigret is played by Benjamin Wainwright, and at least one of his detectives that we are familiar with, Janvier played by Shaniqua Okwok.
Six episodes are apparently to be shown, at least to start with. I am hoping for the best for this series, and I will have a beer and sandwiches ready to eat as I watch.

the 2 episode one case format worked well. solid married couple, very smart and capable inspector. really enjoyed how well he tee things up for carve.

Embarrassingly, by the time this hit the “airwaves,” I had forgotten it was coming. So thank you @rocking_chair for reviving the thread and reminding me.
Now I have watched the first two episodes, which comprised one arc of two stories. I don’t think these are copies of any of the Maigret written stories or novels, but the writer did a very good job of capturing the kinds of stories that Simenon was good at, as well as the entire mise-en-scene of Maigret’s detective squad, even with all the updating. I like the casting and the portrayals of the characters, and the pacing. At first, I was thinking that this could be any cop show and that there was no reason it had to be Maigret particularly, but it didn’t take long for me to change my mind on that. I liked the way they had Maigret fiddle around with a pipe, without smoking it, presumably because his father smoked a pipe. I suppose in one of the episodes I have yet to watch, he will take up the pipe for real.
Serious spoiler: For those who are familiar with the original Maigret’s back story, when we meet him as a middle-aged man, there is something particularly poignant: they did not have any children by then. I can’t remember if Mme. Maigret had had a miscarriage, or if they had a child who then died as an infant or young child. It fairly broke Mme. Maigret’s heart, although she eventually got over it and only thought of it once in a while. It came up in one case where Maigret had to testify in court whether he had any children, and he had to revisit it the pain again.
Anyway, I think they did overall a very good job, and as a strong Maigret fan who has read all the novels and most of the short stories, I congratulate the production team on their efforts.

i’m glad it did not disappoint you.
i did like how maigret would look around and find the bits and bobs. that are often overlooked. the actor did very well with non verbal acting. you could see him take notice of things without the camera zooming in to make it obvious.
