New member - all welcome me please!

Welcome to the SDMB. Personally, I like Great Debates (GD), but it gets a bit, shall we say, intense sometimes. It’s sort of the SDB equivalent of 5 alarm chili – if you’re sensitive to heat, you’ll get flamed to a crisp in no time flat; on the other hand, if you like heat and have an asbestos palate, it’ll give you a unique kind of pleasure. It’s a great way to learn all sides of an issue, even the ones you think are full of nonsense.

There aren’t many posters to watch out for around here. The mods do a great job of enforcing the “Don’t Be A Jerk” rule which keeps unpleasantness down quite a bit. There are posters who get on each others nerves. Such posters tend to get Pitted (called out in the BBQ Pit). If you ever feel the need to Pit someone, common courtesy requires that you provide links so we can see exactly why you’re Pitting them. As a rule, if you have a legitimate beef, people will agree with you. If you don’t, you’ll be told exactly why. If you realize you really didn’t, or if you’re the subject of a legitimate Pitting, gracious apologies are always accepted.

What else? You can usually find me here, in the BBQ Pit, in IMHO, or in GD. I find myself outclassed in Cafe Society and in GQ.

Oh yes, one final bit of advice. You can learn things you never dreamed of here, especially about human sexuality. However, if a thread title contains a reference to TMI, think twice before you open it, then think one more time. Early in my posting days, there was a thread asking for women’s experiences with menstruation which included something to the effect of “TMI. Men Keep Out” in the title. Several of our more foolish guys ventured in, only to find themselves blinded by what they were reading. When they complained, it was pointed out to them that the title did advise them to keep out. At least one poster said that he thought that meant it included really cool lesbian stuff. The OP’s response was something along the lines of, “No. If it did, I would have told you in the title.” You have been warned!

Oh yes, say nice things to Siege every now and then. Believe it or not, she gets insecure at times.

CJ
I must be tired – I’m referring to myself in the 3rd person!

If I may I offer you a bit of an unqualified welcome, as I am relatively new here too. I just jumped in-sometimes you get responces, sometimes not. Then sometimes you post things and go :smack: - and think “what must these people think of me?” :smack:
That’s just me, anyway…sigh…

OK, being a newbie to the SDMB, I need to ask you this. What does “TMI” stand for? I haven’t seen it yet, but since you’re issuing this warning, maybe I should know, even though I’m female.

Otherwise…since my last visit here, I seem to have resolved my former technical problem by reading something at ATMB.

TMI = Too Much Information. Generally, it means graphic or possibly offensive content. Enter at your own risk.

Thank you ever so much. Most of the time, this sounds like the kind of thread I’d enjoy.

Just a minor rule that everyone else seems to have forgotten…it is considered customary, and is indeed even expected, to grovel at, genuflect before, and generally kowtow to any Doper whose screen name begins with a “K.”

<looks at sentence> Wow, that’s a lot of commas.

What KCSuze said.

As the one-time self-appointed newbie welcomer, I am here to officially tell Deadpool to bite me and if you’re female send nekkid pics to my email. This goes for you too, Blonde.

I would give you the both barrells version of one of my patented welcomes, but you didn’t provide enough information about yourself for use as ammunition. You get bonus points however, for sharing the name of one of my favorite comic book characters. And please don’t take this post (or my treatment of newbies in the linked thread) too seriously (unless you really feel the need to send the nekkid pics).

Most of the good stuff can be found in IMHO

Welcome, you all. Yersinia, thanks for answering my LARPS question in the Geek quotient thread.

I’m learning some new stuff here as well. Q.E.D. isn’t everywhere? Who’d have guessed? I second the warning about TMI threads: there’s stuff there that after reading may make you wish you were illiterate.

Crunchy, are you going to take some more movie-watching bullets, or does advanced age prohibit you from continuing the practice? I for one liked the earlier reviews.

And now for something completely umprompted: I’d advise you to pay close attention to anything Siege posts: she’s always insightful and friendly. And needs to have her self-esteem boosted  No really, I’m serious (at least with the first sentence. Ask others if you don’t believe me. Can’t say I’ve read much of her in GD, though: we must frequent different threads.

You’re welcome.

Really? I haven’t seen any of these yet. Been in IMHO, MPSIMS and the Pit so far, but have yet to come upon a TMI thread. Well, I know there’s just so much more for me to surf around in here – and today with my car in the shop, I’ve got plenty of time to do it. Maybe I’ll even find one, hee hee.

Gee, our welcome musta been overwhelming as the OP seems to have swooned into unresponsiveness…

That is so true.

I don’t want to hijack the thread, so this is all I’ll say about it here, but yes, I’ll still do the movie reviews. The thread had seemed to die though, so I didn’t want to keep pushing it. My new girlfriend works at a video store, so I won’t even have to pay to watch this crap anymore. I also have a line on 2 of the first 3 movies I was supposed to watch: I Spit On Your Grave and Ishtar. So I’ll try to remember to get at least one of those this weekend.

Having just come from watching the latest meltdown in the Pit, I just wanted to reiterate this:

Don’t be afraid to apologize when you’re wrong or when you’re right but you’ve acted like an ass. Apologizing will earn you a fair amount of respect around here. Acting like an ass won’t.

Tusculan, thanks for the compliment. I’m usually in the various religion/abortion themed threads. The political ones don’t suit me.

CJ

Howdy and welcome, Mr Deadpool.
Hope you enjoy your stay here at SDMB.
Live long and prosper.

I’ve been really busy and never got around to posting again! I will, though!
