Welcome to the SDMB. Personally, I like Great Debates (GD), but it gets a bit, shall we say, intense sometimes. It’s sort of the SDB equivalent of 5 alarm chili – if you’re sensitive to heat, you’ll get flamed to a crisp in no time flat; on the other hand, if you like heat and have an asbestos palate, it’ll give you a unique kind of pleasure. It’s a great way to learn all sides of an issue, even the ones you think are full of nonsense.
There aren’t many posters to watch out for around here. The mods do a great job of enforcing the “Don’t Be A Jerk” rule which keeps unpleasantness down quite a bit. There are posters who get on each others nerves. Such posters tend to get Pitted (called out in the BBQ Pit). If you ever feel the need to Pit someone, common courtesy requires that you provide links so we can see exactly why you’re Pitting them. As a rule, if you have a legitimate beef, people will agree with you. If you don’t, you’ll be told exactly why. If you realize you really didn’t, or if you’re the subject of a legitimate Pitting, gracious apologies are always accepted.
What else? You can usually find me here, in the BBQ Pit, in IMHO, or in GD. I find myself outclassed in Cafe Society and in GQ.
Oh yes, one final bit of advice. You can learn things you never dreamed of here, especially about human sexuality. However, if a thread title contains a reference to TMI, think twice before you open it, then think one more time. Early in my posting days, there was a thread asking for women’s experiences with menstruation which included something to the effect of “TMI. Men Keep Out” in the title. Several of our more foolish guys ventured in, only to find themselves blinded by what they were reading. When they complained, it was pointed out to them that the title did advise them to keep out. At least one poster said that he thought that meant it included really cool lesbian stuff. The OP’s response was something along the lines of, “No. If it did, I would have told you in the title.” You have been warned!
Oh yes, say nice things to Siege every now and then. Believe it or not, she gets insecure at times.

I must be tired – I’m referring to myself in the 3rd person!
