Moriah is the Biblical mountain upon which Abraham didn’t sacrifice Isaac, so to speak. I dunno if that’s the source of M’s name, though.

Yeah, I get a lot of guesses of the Dwarven mines of Moria where Gandalf the Grey stood off against the Balrog. That ain’t it, though I do like to often quote, “You can not pass!”
And a lot of guesses of Mariah (with an ‘a’) and get compared to a shrill wind or a pop singer – wait a second, they’re both the same thing!
But it’s the nonengendered Moriah of mount fame, also often used as an angelic alter-ego in many role-playing games that has become my preferred moniker online.
