New over-forum proposal

I propose the following group of forums: Golden Oldies, for perpetually reasked questions. Each forum would be dedicated to a particular subject, with links to previous threads. And if anyone still wasn’t satisified with the answers, their thread would be added to the appropriate forum. For example, anyone asking yet again if we really landed astronauts on the moon.

We landed astronauts on the moon?

We would have, if they hadn’t put the rocket on a treadmill.

Well, that’s a relief.

I don’t want a bunch guys I never met to be walking around the on the moon without my permission.

I’m not saying I own the moon, I’m just saying they should get my okay first.

It would be the polite thing to do.

Once, for 20 minutes. It was a giant leap for Duran Duran.

Back at the ranch: Lumpy, I don’t think I understand your proposal. Are you suggesting a forum for questions that get asked a lot, over time, so that when someone comes by to ask (say) about -gry, we could direct them to an existing thread? If that’s what you’re suggesting, then I don’t see why that would be different than the current situation, except you’d be searching the “Golden Oldies” forum rather than “General Questions” to find the dreaded -gry-thread(s)?

If I’m understanding this, it wouldn’t apply much beyond GQ and CoCC – I mean, it wouldn’t work for Great Debates if someone asks about the existence of God to respond, “We’ve already discussed this so we won’t discuss any more.” And there’s little redundancy in MPSIMS or IMHO.

As a suggestion, if someone would like to compile a list of much-discussed GQ questions (and give the links to the threads where they are discussed to death), we could perhaps post a sticky in GQ with some easily searchable list and links to existing thread(s)? Would that work?

Let’s discuss this first before someone does all that work (and it ain’t gonna be a moderator.)

Dex,
While we are discussing new forums, how about a best of the SDMB? Quite often an old thread will be mentioned in a current thread, and up will pop the reply “Where is that one, I couldn’t find it?”
My suggestion is we take the classics that have been produced here, move them to a best of forum, lock each thread (to prevent bumping on a 6 year old thread) and show it to the world.
Right off the top of my head, some of the threads that might qualify are ones like the 9/11 thread, the horror of blimps, and many other that will come to me after coffee.

I agree.

Seconded!

We’ve already discussed this!
