New Package for Coke - brought back many childhood memories.

One dollar (plus a few empties picked up along the way) would buy you…

A 16oz frosty Coke/Mt.Dew in a Glass Bottle…a Charleston Chew or Zero Bar and a couple games on a Pinball Machine, and I was happy for a few hours hanging out at the 7-11.

Yes, this shit in the plastic bottle and HFCS is garbage in comparison.

This or something very similar was at our town’s gas station.

Yeah, the Gulf station by my childhood home had one of those which also contained Fanta Orange Soda, my favorite at the time.

I can’t drink soda any more because the medication I’m on makes it taste spoiled and flat. But, I can drink club soda and mineral water with no flatness. Now you all have me wondering if the problem is a combination of the HFCS and the medication. I need to find myself some real sugar soda and see if it still has the revolting flavor and texture as regular soda.
I’m not old enough to remember soda in glass bottles as anything more than a novelty.

If you just discovered this you have been missing out. I have been buying these glass bottles for years and turning all my friends on to them.

This is hilarious, because when I was living in Europe, I would drink sugar Cokes like the natives. But then I found an American food store and bought a HFCS Dr. Pepper. It was like drinking sunshine. My taste buds woke up, got all ugly American, and were like, “This is what I’m talking about! This tastes like freedom! U-S-A! U-S-A!”

I guess it’s just what you’re used to.

Funny you should mention this. You should look up Dublin Dr Pepper. Dr Pepper with cane sugar also tastes better than HFCS.

Because I wasn’t a DrPepper drinker back home, I didn’t really have a reference point, so the HFCS version tastes normal to me. I’m curious to try the cane sugar version now, though, just to see what it’s like.

Kosher for Passover Coca Cola is also made with real sugar, though not in the glass bottles. Two liter plastic bottles, with a yellow cap.
