So the CBS poll (28% approve, 64% disapprove) was only a modest outlier. But it was still sweet to see him crack 30. Even Drudge said he was getting into the Nixon zone.
Since Bush’s poll numbers DROP every time he gives a major address to the American people, I’m expecting a new record low within the next couple of days.
(What is the opposite of a “bounce”? Splat? Thud? Freefall?)
Not quite, though you’re close. According to this site, Republicans are in the majority of 21 delegations, Democrats control 26, and three are evenly split. And that again, presumes that nothing changes for the Democrats’ worse in 2008 House elections.
I expect they’re right. I’d counted it up back in mid-November and come up with a count of 25-22-3. My notes are at home, so I’m going to be curious to see just where I screwed up!
So, if the troop surge goes horribly wrong, with American casualties skyrocketing as insurgents and militias kill wholesale lots of our troops embedded in Baghdad neighborhoods, what then for Bush’s numbers? Could they slump into the teens as even the diehards give up on him?
Single digits, even? It seems impossible, and yet Bush’s talent for blundering in the Middle East is astounding.
I came across a note in my reminder file about this thread. Since the inauguration of President Obama, I believe that Bricker now owes Frank, RTFirefly, Jonathan Chance, pulykamell and me some money.
