I subscribe to most threads I post to, and when I refresh (either the forum page or the thread page), the new posts show up.
But, e-mail notification comes hours, yes HOURS later, if at all.

How long are you waiting between refreshing? Are you doing so frequently, or loading/replying to other threads on the boards? My email notifications say
which I take to mean that if you are still actively perusing the boards (I think “inactive” is considered to be no action for 15-20 minutes?) then the boards assumes you know about new posts. If you leave for a certain length of time, and people post, then you will receive an email about it. As for the length of time that takes…the emails might be slowed down in it’s journey to your inbox at some point…I know my school server is occasionally slow, and email to my school account sometimes is delayed quite a bit.
Otherwise, I have no idea. Heck, I probably have no idea in what I have said, so take this with a grain of salt or six!
Yes, I recieve that , too. But in the past, I would get notifications even while on the board. Within minutes.
But now, Take today:
I posted and read this morning, got offline. Wasn’t even home, much less surfing. Computer was off.
When I get home, I turn on PC, get online, check e-mail. No notifications. I open IE and navigate via faves to the SDMB where I see that all the threads I posted to or read have new replies. I read those pages. Sometime later, I get an e-mail notice… about the new posts the threads got between my online periods.
To illustrate: I posted at 8:00 am. Offline (comp OFF) from 10:00am to about 3:30pm. Online again, I see new posts with the time of 12:30pm. I read the new posts. Continue to surf and get e-mail notify at 5:00pm for the 12:30pm post (which I read at 3:30pm).
Is the board running that slowly? Or is it something else?
That is what I’m questioning.
Could it be something with server performance? It’s been noted that e-mail notifications sometimes are slow or lost in the FAQ.

9:41pm and I just now got mnemosyne’s post notication.
Over 3 hours. Weird, huh?
The server is working as hard as it can and it always puts board performance first, so email may be backed up a bit.
