New postal scam. Anyone have any more info on this?

So today Mrs. D. hands me a yellow post card we received today with the following on it:

“You Did Not Pick Up!
Parcel # 3611-C
PLEASE CALL IMMEDIATELY
@ 1-888-338-2227
Monday-Friday 10am to 8pm Sat. 10am - 2pm.”

The parcel number was written in and the 800 number was red-stamped onto the card.

The return address is listed as “Flp” from a PO box in Dayton, OH, but the postal stamp says it came from Houston, TX.

There is also a note on it saying, “Will only hold for 72 hours.”

Obviously it is some sort of scam, or some sort of marketing gimmick.

Has anyone else received this? Does anyone have any more information on this because my Google-Fu doesn’t seem to be able to dig up anything beyond what I was able to figure out… and there is no way I’m going to call that number.

Marketing scam.

My Google-fu found me this page, which suggests it’s some dubious marketing campaign.

I googled the number just for fun. Over at Yahoo Answers somebody asked the same question and so far a number of people have reported getting the same card.

Apparantly if you use the *67 option to block your phone they won’t answer.

While they still havn’t got a handle on the people behind that card there is active speculation that by making YOU call them you may create a “business relationship” that nullifies being on a do not call list.

Geez. Great minds think alike. Three Googles in less than 7 minutes.
