I have a dream!
Actually, several. I’ve been thinking about creating a “serious” counterpart to, say, magic the Gathering, oriented more towards people a bit older. But I wonder how many people might still want to play it. It still seems a bit weird, but the concept is interests me. I was thinking of making a game about politics, where your object is to use your resources.
The object of the game is to gain more “Majesty” than your opponent. You can slap him/her down. Majesty starts at zero, and goes up from there. Like Magic, there are five “elements” to give the game some diversity. As follows:
Media (personal fame and getting your name out - good for direct fame growth and destroying opponent’s cards)
Finance (money sources and contributors - for direct fame, but not much toughness behind it)
Religion (not sure what to do here, but it’s sool enough I’ll have to gie it some thought.)
Lobby (power over and support from special interest groups - good for messing with your opponent)
Influence (political influence over current politicians - good at restricting your opponent’s ability)
I like to keep games short, so I’ll probably go for a 40-card minimum deck. Sounds cool? Would you buy this product (assuming it was in and of itself a good product)? Would the concept throw you off?
Another thing I was thinking of was making a family-casino. There’s no real gambling; it’s all entertainment. Either people would pay by the hour, or could purchase tokens to use in games. (Tokens can be redeemed for minor prizes and the like, which should be legal.) Hence it’s more a place to spend some time, have a drink, and enjoy yourself. It would probably come with a child-care center and some arcade games for the kiddies. Poker tournaments can round out the week. What do you think?
As a final note, anyone know any good RPG game groups who meet in Conventions, and might want free material to run? Preferably non-D20.
