New regulations about telemarketing - strike one for the good guys!

That much is certain.

I just thought about the DO CALL as opposed to DO NOT CALL lists. While a DO CALL list would be desirable for many of us reg’lar folks, sadly, that, as a concept, is so profoundly contrary to the capitalist marketing paradigm that it is tantamount to heresy to “The Money” (which would include their pliant servants, politicians and mid-management pecuniary emulators) and was probably never even seriously proposed (or would ever even be).

The DO NOT CALL list is the perfect “compromise”, because while giving the appearance of giving customers a choice, it relies on the laziness and ignorance of a significant enough portion of the population (a fairly safe reliance at that) to ensure that that “choice” is rarely excercised.

Furthermore, if violated, few enough people would call the telemarketers on it so it would probably be worth their while to break the rules because the penalty would be less than the benefit in the long run, kind of like Holding in football or double parking delivery trucks…

No matter what we do, we will always end up back in their lair. We make rules, they break them and worm around them. We make rules aginst worming around, they’ll worm around those as well. Our whole existence is to be economic cattle, husbanded to produce and coralled into bad choices.

If people are bothered enough by telemarketers, I think their laziness/ignorance would disappear rather quickly.

Concerned about telemarketers breaking the “rules”, outlaw it and let the penalty be DEATH.

This I don’t think would be the case. I know that if I went through the trouble of getting on the DNC list, I’d be pretty pissed if a telemarketer called me. Right now, I’d have to remember every DNC list that I’m on, and that’s just too tough. Also, knowing that the penalties are severe would encourage me to pull out the DNC threat if I get called.

Am I going to have to pay to be on this “do not call list”?, if so who gets the money?.
