First rule of BushCo: don’t talk about BushCo.
You’re aware, of course, in the the search results you linked, a large percentage of the hits are not using MSM as short-hand for Main Stream Media, right? They’re using just as Excalibre describes.
We could call it milroyjing. Whatta think o’ that? :insert straight face smiley here:
They’re gay? Shit, I had no idea.
Who’s up for a foursome, boys?
We don’t need a name for posting what one believes. OTOH, we do have a rule against trying to hint that another poster is trolling.
Given that the information and opinions in his OP are consistent with other threads he has started, that he (indirectly) cited legitimate news sources, and that he returned to the thread to defend his thesis, I see no evidence for your claim that “he didn’t really mean what he posted” so your inference is without foundation.
Nope!
Daniel
No, I was not, for I didn’t go past the first page which appears to support my point.
Having said that, both Excalibre and myself have learned a new meaning for the acronym at hand which fits rather nicely with one of my favorite mottos: learn something new everyday. Thus I fail to see the relevance of continuing down this particular line of quibbling.
Thanks all the same for bringing it up to my attention.
Just got it. And it was actually a pretty good quip.
Dipped in batter and fried I should be.
:o
What, you getting only three hits per page? The fourth one says quite clearly “However, there MSM stands for ‘Men having Sex with Men’ …”
Maybe this is quibbling down the sideline fo this particular argument, but a person who’s posting a link supporting his argument, really should have some idea what is contained in that link. And that’s something applicable to the SDMB in general.
And in any case this entire thread seems to now be headed down some sideline into oblivion.
Not unlike Bush’s America.
- When did Kofi Annan become the arbiter of what is and is not illegal?
- Assuming for a moment that he was, why hasn’t the U.S. been branded an outlaw nation, then?
- What do pictures of what almost everyone already knows, namely that war is a dirty, messy, destructive thing, killing and maiming thousands of people, have to do with the first two points?
Okay, that was funny.
Redfury, no worries on not getting my joke; I realized after I posted it that wasn’t exactly written in crystalline prose.
Daniel
I defer to the wisdom of our even-handed mods (and I will gladly say, without any attempt at ass-kissing, that tomndebb is one of the most objective mods on the boards).
I was considering restarting the thread with a less “provocative” opening, but given that people are having enough fun with this thread, feel they don’t need the additional fuel.
Yeah - whether the war is illegal or not, it’s not going to be pretty. Incidentally, neither was Saddam’s use of nerve gas on the Kurds.
Oh my Christ. I’m turning into a Republican as we speak!
Yes, it was.
Oh my Christ. I’m turning into a Democrat as we speak!
1280 x 1024 res. Average of ten hits per.
There’s irony aplenty to be had here. See, the reason it says that is due to the search terms I used (acronym + MSM) – it’s highlighting a post to that blog that questions the use of the term by the blogger. The blogger him/herself is using the acronym, MSM, as I did!
Fair enough. Let’s look back at my original claim:
(my italics)
Six out the ten hits on the first page support said claim, would you not agree? Mind you, had I chosen to narrow down my search terms a bit more, like for instance MSM + mainstream media + acronym, well, what do you know…all ten hits use it like fashion!
You’re now welcomed to go check the other aprox 13,990 and come back to quibble some more
International Law. The UN. The USA, a member of the latter and a signatory of treaties promising to obey the former.
Bet you can figure out the rest.
Because you have the biggest guns. Might makes right, didn’t ya know?
Because, had your Gov chosen to abide by its promises, most of those people would be alive today.
Say, how high can you count?
New rule: shut the fuck up about MSM!
Daniel
Prose was fine. My confusion stemmed from the two different usages of the MSM acronym – in the context in which I wrote it, your post made no sense.
See UncleBeer for additional help with this. Or blame the Gay Agenda
Earlier in this thread, I partially defended rjung, and partially said he was “bush-bashing” too much. Now that I look over his posts more, I see that for one thing, the person who’s threads he was posting on is not the nicest of people, and furthermore, there is no such thing as “too much bush-bashing!”
