New SD tailored for IE?

I’m a netscape user. I go the new and improved SDMB and find that the message board is confined to a width of 640 pixels across the screen. So this makes all the subject lines scrunched up to a few letters per line, which kind of makes it difficult to read.

So I’m thinking, ok, maybe this is just a flaw of this new software and it will be fixed shortly. But then it dawns on me that it could be browser specific. I open up IE, and the board looks flawless.

Now, what the fuck? Is the software totally alienating Netscape users? I mean, I don’t want to turn this into a Netscape vs IE debate, but there are some serious differences here.

I hope this problem is corrected. I really don’t want to use IE for this.

Update your Netscape version… I use 4.72 and it looks as good as IE 5.0.

Maybe you have a smaller screen set at a different resolution, Squee.

I have Netscape 4.72 as well, and the columns are TOTALLY off, everything smoooshed to the left side. This is on a 17" at 1024x768. Very funky looking.

I upgraded from 4.6 to 4.72 and still have the same problem. It’s annoying, because I like Netscape much better than IE, but the columns being all off to one side sucks.

Suzeanne,

I have a 17" monitor also, but my resolution is set to 800x600 pixels. When I adjust my screen to your settings, it just makes everything smaller. Try adjusting your settings. If that doesn’t do it, I’m sure someone with more knowledge than I will come along and give you an idea that works.

Well, I have Navigator 4.72 and only a 15" monitor, and I don’t have any problems with how the site looks.

I haven’t looked at it at work yet, though since I have a 17" monitor there, I doubt it’ll look worse…

I am an IE user and testing this with Netscrape version 4.5.

The forum pages are goofed up but the rest of it is okay.

I looked at the source code and apparently it uses cascading style sheets which Netscrape has a hard time with, it always has.

BTW, I am using a 17" monitor with a resolution of 800x600.

< this posting was done in Netscrape sorry if you prefer it, I just prefer IE  >

I played around with the table layout html on a copy of a page until I got it to come out the same in both browsers. Netscape doesn’t handle certain aspects of table layout well, which I believe has something to do with them not following the W3C’s HTML standards. I have no idea if this is still the case with Netscape 6, but I was using 4.7.

I am using Netscape 4.72 here at home. Thing is, I’m getting the smooshed columns in only some forums! MPSIMS and ATMB are smooshed. I think GQ is normal, and I KNOW The Pit is. Don’t remember if GD is normal or not.

Using IE at work, and everything looks fine.

Is there any explanation for that?

I just changed a backend template to render the forum display screen better for Netscape users. Check out thread:

Perhaps this is a caching issue?
