New Season Of MONK Starts Tonight At 10:00 PM On USA

Title says it all.

If you have never seen it, it is a quirky mystery series that you will either like a lot, or it will annoy you.

I like it.

Give it a try.

It’s not like there is a whole lot on TV this time of year anyway.

Any word on whether or not ABC will replay the season?

As of now, the word is NO, they will not be replaying the shows on ABC this year.

Last summer when Monk debuted, it seemed to be the critics’ darling. This season, it seems they’re taking a “sophomore slump” attitude toward it. One reviewer previewed the season premiere in the Portland Oregonian and while he didn’t exactly pan it, he had did strongly criticize what he saw as a lack of development of any of the supporting characters, especially the “suspects”.

I still plan on watching, and if there’s any truth to the review, I hope the writers and producers will work on that aspect. It’s a fun show and I’d hate to see it go yet.

We are big Tony Shalhoub fans in this house. Thanks for the reminder – I almost forgot!

They reportedly have been considering aring replays like they did last season.

Guess what network was responsible for developing Monk in the first place?

I caught one of the episodes when we were on vacation and oh, gods I can’t believe I missed this show (so I didn’t have cable or antenna TV…). I cannot wait, I think it’s moving into my top 10 favorite shows.

The only network show I’ve looked forward to in a long time. Wonder what tonight’s inside joke will be (if there is indeed one)?

Ok, if it’s lost anything (as the critics were supposedly saying), that episode was better than just about any of the other shows on TV anyway.

And anyone else catch the promo for “Peacemakers” with Tom Berenger? That looked very cool.

Yep, it was a very good show. Really liked it :D. I also appreciated how the regular police didn’t seem like dunces in this season premiere (which they did at some times last season).

Peacemakers also looks good, if they do it right!

Oh, god, that scene at the top of the tower (where they’re trying to figure out what they missed) cracked me up.

Looks like it’s gonna be a Wild Wild West (the show) or Brisco County Jr. thing, so it should be pretty cool.

A decently good episode of Monk, which is still better than 99% of network TV.

And hey! A Sledge Hammer! sighting! (The testosterone-drunk gym teacher was played by David Rasche, eponymous of that series.)

I definetly did enjoy it, but the end (ie, how he did it) was a bit strange. Oh well, it’s Monk, strange things happen ;).

I loved when he was writing his name on the chalkboard . . . classic Monk!

“Chalk dust…I can’t breathe…I gotta go to the nurse.”

“This must be your worst nightmare, eh, Monk?”

“Fourth worst, actually. No, fifth. Fourth. Uh, I didn’t bring the list with me.”

I love this show.

The whodunit was enormously clever, but not really plausible:

I’ve never seen a clock with shelf-like hands that would hold a body. The corpse would have fallen off sideways. Blah blah blah.

That’s not the point of these shows, of course.

I also liked how they handled the police, a little different from last year. They did some legitimate investigative work and made a discovery this time, something that helped Monk. That was good. And yeah, the scene on the tower – “What did we forget?” – was great.

My wife and I try never to miss the show. Wonderfully clever structure. It shares with Columbo, an all-time classic, the hero who isn’t taken seriously by his prey, and is more effective as a result. If Monk sticks around another couple of years, it’ll only get better, and it will deserve to be in the same category.

And I don’t even really like mysteries…

“There’s an unwritten Queen-licking rule?”

I’m glad this show is back. Friday nights are good again.

I like this show a lot. I was just a bit pissed because I was watching it with friends and thought I had figured it out, blurted out my theory that I was really sure of, and of course I couldn’t have been more wrong.

I wonder, has there been any complaints from the PC folk about
making light of a mental disorder, OCD? My faith in humanity might be slowly being restored if they haven’t tried to boycott advertisers and such nonsense.

Revtim, I would hope that people would be reasonable enough to see that Monk’s disorder is not simply being played for laughs. If anything, it makes him a better detective. Also, there is a sweetness about the relationship between him and Sharona: she obviously cares for him and deals with his behavior as though it’s perfectly normal. There’s also his devotion to his deceased wife, which may be part of the OCD but I think it mirrors the attachment anyone without the disorder might have for a lost loved one. All in all, I don’t see anything objectionable in the way the issue is handled. Like you, I hope the PC types leave it alone.

I remember reading an article that said, in the first season, the OCD developed from his existing neuroses after his wife died/her death was unsolved.

I just started watching recently, so take that for what it’s worth.

I think the disorder thing is handled pretty well, he’s not made out to be a fool or anything, but, heck, there’s ALWAYS going to be someone offended.
