"New" Songs That You Really Like

What “New” songs are you really into at the moment?

“New” = Songs you have heard for the first time recently (say within the last couple of weeks). These could be brand new songs, or older songs you have just now heard for the first time.

Here are some for me.

Slipknot Duality- Whoa, what a killer song! The whole structure of the song is great. The powerful chorus. The soaring guitar chords. The super cool talking narrator. I must confess, this is the first Slipknot I have ever heard. Apparently this song is in heavy rotation now on Modern Rock stations.

T. Rex Children of the Revolution- I’ve heard this song a couple times recently on a newly bookmarked internet radio station. The more I hear it, the more I love it! The string arrangements are superb. And man, when that chorus drops in for the first time it’s like a small bomb going off or something; It’s hard to describe. I gotta go buy me a T. Rex album. Any suggestions?

I’m really excited about where “alternative” music is going lately. Some of my recent favorite songs:

“Float On” by Modest Mouse
“Take Me Out” by Franz Ferdinand
“Somebody Told Me” by The Killers

I also really like the new Tragically Hip CD, In Between Evolution and I’m buying Los Lonely Boys CD tonight because hubby and I love their single, “Heaven”.

i just got carl “ac” newman’s cd, “the slow wonder” the other day, and it has some nice joints on it. you might remember carl from such bands as zumpano and the new pornographers. anyway, “on the table” and “town halo” are amazing. if you like the new pornographers, you’ll like carl’s album.

as for not-so-new but new to me music, i just discovered bonnie “prince” billy’s “i see a darkness.” wow. totally on the other side of the happiness spectrum, but beautiful stuff.

I’m really loving the single “Slither” by Velvet Revolver right now.

I have to totally turn it up in my car and think of hot, smoky bars with dirty boys in them. It helps me get through the realization that I’m almost 9 months pregnant and I’m the last thing dirty boys in hot, smoky bars would want to slither with.

Theres two song, I dont know the name of either but heres a brief description of the music videos…

Vid 1: The video is basically the 2 singers in a field with a broken down car, the female singer is the girl from evanescence, cant remember who the band were though.

Vid 2: This is even more vague then the last, but the video for this song, is for the most part, just the guys mouth who is singing the song. Theres writing at the start of it as well.

I’ve just discovered how cool the song “The Last Excuse” by Dismantled is. It’s from the most recent album, “Post Nuclear” - a good dark groove.

The band is Seether, the song is “Broken”, the girl is Amy Lee. I like that one too, but sometimes the guitar just drowns out Lee’s voice, which is a bit annoying.

Belle and Sebastian - “Get Me Away From Here I’m Dyin”

Greatest song EVAR!

Seriously, I can’t get enough of it. I love the lyrics on this and the accompanying instrumentals are perfect.

One of my top two or three favorite Belle and Sebastian songs. I’ve been on a real B&S kick lately, even though the CD player in my dad’s van DESTROYED my “The Boy With the Arab Strap” CD. Have you heard their newest album, “Dear Catastrophe Waitress”? Also blissful pop perfection.

I really like these singles as well, and now I want to seek out more stuff from these two bands. I may have heard the Killers too, but not known it was them.

I am NOT AT ALL a Cure fan, but I really really like the new song (which is called…uh…I think “The End of the World” or some such)…I first heard it at Kroger (???). I go to work the next day and play their new cd and…gasp…I like the entire thing.

sigh

I have worked very hard for many years to hate Robert Smith…and now…this.

sigh

“Staring at the Sun” by TV on the Radio
“Automatic Girl” by Lola Ray

The 2nd one is a total crank-it-up song. I speed every time it comes up on my car stereo.

Velvet Revolver - Illegal i Song

Rage Against the Machine - Bulls on Parade
Rage Against the Machine - No Shelter
Rage Against the Machine - Down Rodeo

Audioslave - Gasoline

Bad religion - Boot Stamping on A Human Face

Thrice - Sillhouette
Thrice - The Artists in the Ambulance

Deftones - Passenger
Deftones - Be Quiet and Drive
Deftones - Knife Party

(Most are songs I recently heard and love.)

Add “My Coco” by StellaStar and you’ve got my list.

Plus the song with “I won’t let you bury/smother/murder him” in it. I can’t seem to find that song anywhere. Who does it?

Well, they’re not ‘new’, but I had never heard Mass Romantic by the New Pornographers and Bachelorette by Bjork until just a few weeks ago. In truth, I had never heard anything by either one before. What great songs! What great artists!

  • KarlGauss (a guy who grew up liking Gary Lewis and the Playboys)

I’ll be the one to say it:

Ugh! I hate this song! Mostly because I can NOT get it out of my head. Damn you, VH1!

Wonderful CD, isn’t it? I had the chance to see them for free locally recently, and I was just…awestruck.

For me, though…a guy who’s into college rock (Ben Folds, Counting Crows, Liz Phair), I’ve been getting more into Outkast. “Roses” is just so frickin’ catchy that only “Float On” can seem to unseat it.

It’s okay to admit after all these years that you finally got it right

Band: Muse
Title: Time is Running Out

This week, I like

“I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” My Chemical Romance-Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge

“Vindicated” Dashboard Confessional-Spiderman 2 Soundtrack

“Here With Me” MercyMe-Undone

What I will do is, I will overplay there cds untill I get bored of them. Then I won’t listen to them for about a year, then the process starts again.

Electric Warrior. Definitely.

From the album Absolution, which rocks.

I hate myself for it, but I really like that Rasmus song. Can’t remember what its called, but its well catchy.
