Not much detail yet…
I must admit I’m not really so excited about another Star Wars movie (unless it’s more like Rogue One as that was great) and not sure if I’ll go and see this.
Ah who am I kidding? I’ll inevitably go see this!

The goodwill I had banked in the franchise was enough to get me in the door of Episode IX. But it’s now expended. From here out, they have to give me a reason to go see Star Wars movies. They certainly might do so. But it’s not a given any more.
“What happens in Rogue One?”
“Everyone dies. A DVD is preserved.”
“Oh.”
Lots of other Star Wars stuff (plus a Willow sequel):
A lot to digest,
Brian
My goodwill has all been spent as well. I didn’t even see Rise of the Skywalker in theaters because I was so disappointed with The Last Jedi.
Among the new Star Wars projects announced Thursday are two spinoffs from Disney Plus’ breakout hit The Mandalorian. One, Ahsoka, will follow the character originated in the animated The Clone Wars series and was portrayed by Rosario Dawson in Mandalorian’s second season. It’s set within the timeline for The Mandalorian and will debut on Disney Plus around Christmas of 2021. The other Mando spinoff is called Rangers of the New Republic.
Star Wars: Rouge One was pretty good.
But mostly I agree with you (saying that as a lifelong fan of Star Wars).
And from what I gather, the three series will culminate into something big…maybe a movie or another series like the Defenders did on Netflix.
I’m pumped for Star Wars over the next few years. Obi Wan and Ahsoka and Cassian Andor series, with the possibility of seeing live-action Thrawn, Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren? Seriously, I’m pumped!
ETA: It would suck to hate this franchise so much. There’s so much happening since Disney+ launched…from the final season of Clone Wars to Mandalorian and the promise of new shows. The movies are far from the best thing in the SW universe right now (or from the past 20 years). The shows (Resistance notwithstanding) are rock solid and getting better with each new season.
There’s lots of new things, and I’m looking forward to them. Some of them might not be good (Resistance certainly wasn’t, nor Solo), but I feel their track record has been pretty good. YMMV
I’m pretty stoked.
I even really liked Solo, and hope they continue the story of Maul and Crimson Dawn in a new series and/or movie. Even if it’s a straight-to-streaming movie. I mean, forget the Han and Lando portion of the story, and just focus on Maul and Qira and Crimson Dawn.
I thought Solo was oddly uneven. It had its really good moments but overall it didn’t quite come together.
I think the best Star Wars movies are the slightly darker ones. Think Empire Strikes Back and Rouge One (maybe Attack of the Clones).
Ewoks and Jar Jar and pod racing and angsty teens (looking at you teen Anakin Skywalker and Kylo Ren) just screw it all up.
Also dumb shit like a Death Star planet that shoots things light years away as if they were a few miles away. It looked cool but c’mon.
And Rise of Skywalker took the lazy writing to infinity. Just baaaad (Battle Of Exegol…looks cool but that’s where that ends…ugh).
Rogue One
That’s why I’m into the shows. (Also, my favorite SW movie of all time is R1. I base this on the fact that that’s the movie I find myself re-watching more than any other. So I’m with you on the dark ones.)
Also, FYI, I just read that Hayden Christensen is back as Anakin in the Obi-Wan series. I hated the way Lucas wrote Anakin in the prequelmovies, but loved Anakin in Clone Wars, so I hope this new opportunity to see a live-action Anakin gives Hayden something solid to work with. I’m cautiously optimistic, especially with Favreau and Filoni potentially overseeing.
I’m one of the few Star Wars fans, it seems, who thinks Rogue One wasn’t all that great. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t any better than Solo. Of course, Rise of Skywalker was the nadir of the recent movies.
I’m with Fiendish; they’ve run out of my goodwill. Honestly, while parts of the recent movies were good, if you really think about it, the only GREAT Star Wars movies were made in 1977 and 1980.It’s time to accept slapping “Star Wars” on a movie does not make it great.
Anymore, the announcement of a new Star Wars movie just makes me nervous about how they’re going to fuck up something I love even more.
Looks like they’re done with sagas, and want all single-shot stories. Even though there’s going to be a big bad guy who ties the new TV series together, they’ll still be their own things.
So though Star Wars has been a rough ride lately, with such an onslaught of projects they’re going full-on Marvel; when one doesn’t tickle your fancy, maybe the next one will.
As I predicted, Disney has wrecked the franchise.
They can’t do anything right, except Princess Movies.
I find your lack of faith disturbing.
I enjoyed it but found it to be a little too bleak for a Star Wars movie. You know, with all the characters going to that great moisture farm in the sky at the end.
