New tactic in Virginia to discourage voting?

Whose great idea was it to have voting at the middle school at the same time that students were getting musical instruction? Seriously, though, I feel for the poor students who had to put up with everybody staring at them while waiting to vote.
(Actually-you on the clarinet-you weren’t that bad. Trombone guy, OTOH…)

Wow. In my town, most of the polling places are at schools, so all schools are closed for the day - even those that are not used as polling places.

My polling place is in an elementary school, but they usually have it set up in an area separated from the kids.

That’s how I remember it worked (thirty or forty years ago). The polling place was in the elementary schools but the schools were closed for the day.

What I remember (from more than 40 years ago) is that my elementary school had voting in the gym, so only the gym was closed to classes or other student use for that day.

Where I live now, voting is more likely to be in some church building rather than a school.
Roddy

They sure didn’t close my elementary school when polls were set up on election day. Instead, they moved lunch from the cafeteria (where the polling stations were) to the gym.

I believe they enticed adults to vote by promising them the opportunity to embarrass their sixth-grader children by waving to them in school.

I thought their tactic was both of the guys they had running.
(sad trombone noise…)

They had a voting station at my high school. It was a big enough school that they just closed off one of our parking lots and the gym for the day.

Where I grew up, there was a separate building at the local elementary school called the All-Purpose Room. At first it was used as a cafeteria, a gym, to put on plays, etc. On Election Day, that’s where the voting machines were. It’s still used for plays and voting, but now they have a separate gym/cafeteria. Schools don’t close on Election Day.

Where I live now, people vote in the school gym, and the schools are closed.

Where I live, voting is on a Saturday so school’s out anyway!
