My up to date and registered Norton AntiVirus2003 has found a virus in my system.
The infected file is SYSCFG32.EXE, the virus is a bloodhound.packet. I can’t repair, quarantine or delete the infected file with the help of my virus protection, the virus is unknown to Norton.
My question is, What is the significance and purpose of SYSCFG32.EXE? can I just go and delete it? and Does anyone know how to fix the problem?
The link pretty much has it. IME you might have to rename the file before you delete it, though. If windows won’t let you delete it just rename it to SYSCFG32.EXE.VIR or whatever and then you should be able to delete it. You should back your system up or set a “restore point” first if you have the software for it. I’ve never had any problems removing viruses this way, even if they are disguised as system files, but I’ve never removed this partucular virus so you never know.
Please excuse the tardiness of my reply. Thanks for the tips UselessGit, they helped. Weirddave thanks for the link I had veiwed 3 minutes previously when they did help.
I figure that the significance and purpose of “syscfg32.exe” is that it isnt a valid Windows system file which is infected, but it actually is the virus.
