New website and new blog.

I’ve taken the advice some people here have given me - I’ve got a blog.

But more to the point I’ve got a website. There’s nothing on it yet. But I’m open to suggestions.

click on ‘Blog’ and post comments.
or not.

Edit: No comments along the lines of “Stick it up your bum” please.

That’s a pretty cute cat.

A great place to get ideas is Dynamic Drive (dot) Com. If you have questions about a website they can help you. They have examples of HTML, JavaScript, And CSS to help you get ideas.

If you are interested in getting more complex as you get into having your own site Google, e107 and/or Drupal. These are free content management systems. They are probably a lot more than you want but note the addresses.

If you want to add content Wikis are good. Docuwiki is a free Wiki that is easy to set up. MediaWiki (the Wikipedia uses this) is excellent and free but isn’t nearly as user friendly as Docuwiki.

The thing to remember when you have a blog is get UNIQUE content. The easiest way to do this is think about what you haven’t seen. For instance, you site has Manx Cats. Ask yourself why did I get a Manx Cat and why do I like them. Then ask yourself some questions and Google them. See what have answers and what doesn’t. If it doesn’t have an answer, well answer it.

Another things if you have questions and can’t find it, post those questions, as other people would ask them. If you have a question others will too. So they will Google and your site will come up. You may not get the answers, but at least you’ll be in familiar company

Don’t forget YouTube, get a roomba and put your cat on it and show him riding around on it. People love to look at cats riding roombas. Then link to your blog from YouTube.

Thanks.

Katie (the cat) is all grown up now. She’d be off the roomba like a shot (if I had one).

She has a routine, like human grown ups - eat, sleep, eat, sleep, eat, sleep, eat, sleep.

The site won’t be specifically about manx cats. It’s just that Katie gave me the idea for the name, so for now she gets pride of place on the main page.

And the blog is secondary to the website. If the website ends up being a showcase for my photography, then the blog would probably be mostly about the site’s content.

I think www.stumbleupon.com tends to provide a lot of inspiration. I’ll llook at the things you’ve suggested also.
