New Wil Wheaton TNG review on tvsquad

After a 5 month hiatus, there’s a new TNG episode review by Wil Wheaton up on tvsquad here. Hilarious as usual.

If that kid could act as well as he can snark, he’d have a shelf loaded with Oscars. I’d buy a book of his reviews (suggested in the comments.)

I’ve never read these before, but he’s pretty good: Exposition Voltron, Of Mice and Men, the Haunted Mansion, planet Shark, cricket.

The kid’s in his 30s now.

“and Lore pretty quickly reveals that he’s a complete dickwad.”

That’s gold, Jerry…Gold!

It was worth reading just for:

"Riker, Geordi, and Tasha all join forces to be sort of an Exposition Voltron, . . . "

Now I’m going to have to read them all.

The review is longer than the actual episode! Reminds me of Televison Without Pity so-called recaps, except it’s a bit weird that the writer is actually one of the people who appears in the episode. He sounds so detached from all of it. But it is fairly amusing, if you have the time to read all of it.

“Planet Shark”. Hee.

If you believe Wheaton needed to redeem hismelf for playing Wesley - I don’t; I blame the character’s irritating qualities on poor writing - that site is it. I particularly love the frequent Futurama and Simpsons references.

Regarding “The Last Outpost:”

Of “The Lonely Among Us:”

Yeah, the personal recollections are what really sell the reviews. I especially like the bit where he got harassed by Nice Guy Eddie’s dad.

This struck me most of all:

If my son Ryan, who is about to enter college, is reading this, please don’t follow his example if you intend to graduate in four years. Keep studying. Your grades and my money thank you.God, I am older than dirt.

You’re not quite that old. His 2 kids are from his wife’s first marriage, so he’s only 16 years older than Ryan.

I’m really glad you clarified this for us - I was horrified at the thought of Wheaton popping a sprog out at age 17!

I have to say his reviews are fantastic, it’s good to see he’s able to laugh at himself and TNG as much as is necessary.

But what the fuck is up with the website that hosts that blog? Buggy and slow as hell!

Whew!

He’s written a great deal about being a stepdad (I can’t remember the name of the book he put out about it, but I’ve read a lot about it on his blog) that’s extremely touching.

Still a kid in my book. My mother in law used to call the guys at a produce stand “the Young Men.” When we went with her once, we found they were all in their '60s.

He even referenced Re: Your Brains by Jonathan Coulton:

Lore: Hey, it is not unreasonable, I mean, it is not going to eat your eyes.

Those are great. Is there any link where they are all collected? He has some links in the various reviews, but I’d like to see more.

As far as I know, the ones on that site are all that exist. He’s doing the episodes in order, and he hasn’t even gotten out of season 1 yet.

ETA: Sorry, I forgot the OP’s link went directly to an episode review. Here’s the link to the blog itself.
