Wil Wheaton's Star Trek TNG reviews

He’s written three so far and I think they’re pretty funny regardless of whether you’ve seen the actual episode or not. Definitely worth a read for the offbeat humor and the behind the scenes experiences.

“But she then adds that she doesn’t feel anything from the mysterious assistant, like he isn’t even there. (This theme is widely repeated in Troi and Riker fan fiction on Usenet.)”

Best… line… eva!

This. Is the funniest shit. Ever.

My favorite part:

favorite quote so far:

"Data says Ferengi are like traders, and explains this with the most obvious contemporary reference: Yankee traders from 18th century America. This indicates that, in the 24th century, the traditional practice of using 400 year-old comparisons is still in vogue, like when you’re stuck in traffic on the freeway, and you say, “Man, this is just like Vasco de Gama trying to go around the Cape of Good Hope!” "

I liked this one:

Glad some of you are enjoying it. I can’t wait for him to write more. The “Obligatory Technobabble” section at the end is always good for a laugh.

“When they return to the Enterprise, Geordi is clearly in Bat Country…”

Brilliant.

Wil Wheton is a nerdgod.

I adore him so very much.

He really is a nerdgod.

I think SOMEone has also watched “The Princess Bride.”

Yup, that’s some funny shit there. Pretty well-written, too. Props to my man, Wil. (Don’t know why I started typing like someone much blacker than I am, there. Must be contagious.)

High-larious.

I never thought I’d ever say this, but I might have a little crush on Wil. That was sheer brilliance.

Brilliant.

A second endorsement for Wil’s reviews (and his blog). He had me hooked with this line from the first review, of “The Naked Now”:

Oh, SNAP!

This is funny shit. The few times I’ve watched TNG in recent years, I’ve found that some of it - especially the early stuff - was pretty darn bad. So this is fun to read, and in some way, it’s karmic redemption for Wesley.

Seinfeld, too:

And Firefly…
He’s a real geek…probably even views the SDMB…Hey, Wil!! Holler if you’re out there! (Just make a mention on one of your blogs…that way you don’t have to reveal your username…)

What the heck does he do for a living, day-to-day…?

And “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” (or Isaac Asimov) too (the Encyclopedia Galactica reference). He’s a very well-educated man.

Collect residuals?

With few exceptions, nobody who was a cast member on a TV show that runs more than five seasons ever has to work again, basically.

My pick so far (only read the first one…)

*"Back in engineering, everyone tries to accept responsibility for the crisis (well, everyone except Kosinski, who wishes he’d saved up some whizz for the occasion) and Riker ultimately tells Picard that Wesley knew something was going on, tried to warn them and nobody would listen.

Yeah! Suck it, jerks! Wesley was right, bitches, and you wouldn’t listen to him! Woo! Go Wesley! Go Wesley! It’s your birthday! It’s your birthday!"*

I was always impressed with Wil Wheaton when he was on the show; he used to post on GEnie and it was clear he knew in the beginning that the show wasn’t all that good. I remember him saying something like, “Look, we know the characters are wooden and the stories stink, but the fanboys tune in and give it good ratings, so it won’t improve until they don’t.”
