New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

The staging area is Sen’jin Village, east of the orc/troll starting area. I haven’t done it yet, but it’s apparently the preliminary for recapturing the Isles, which are the traditional Darkspear homeland, which was conquered by a troll mage or warlock named Zalazane (who figured into low-level quests from the very beginning). It’s analogous to the Gnomeregan chain, in that you’re recapturing the exiled race’s starting area.

Thank you for spoiling this I was going to do it this weekend. :frowning:

What, you were expecting the Trolls to be led by Cairne, fight in Azshara, against Medivh, and lose?

I’m sorry if that was a spoiler–I didn’t think it was actually a big secret. They’ve been talking about it for quite awhile now.

I knew the reason for the battel but didn’t know what actually happened during it. No worrys.

Quick question…do the VoA reset weekly or daily? I never bothered to try it 2 days in a row since I assumed it was a weekly. I need to get the achievements for Storm-25 and Stone-25 which nowadays seem pretty unlikely unless I started the raid myself and tell any PuGs what my plans are up front…and wait…and wait…and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…and then find out that we couldn’t hold WG.

Once a week.

Can you guys explain the Isle of Quel’danas to me? My warrior is level 70 and just went there. There are a ton of daily quests, and a few vendors. Some of the vendors sell plate armor, but you have to trade in other pieces of armor for them…am I getting that right? Also, there are vendors that sell things for badges. I assume that you get badges for doing dailies, but how do I see how many I have? Do you get one per daily? What are the other kinds of currency there?

I haven’t done any raiding, or PVP. I haven’t even done any dungeons since level 40ish. Do the vendors not apply to me?

Badges are currency, so look in your character screen under the Currency tab.

Not to be obtuse, but I don’t see a currency tab. In my character window, I have pets, reputation and skills. Does a currency tab populate itself once you get your first non-gold money?

I’m assuming that it will appear when you get that first non-gold currency, since battleground marks of honor appear there, also.

It resets Tuesday mornings along with all the other Wrath raids.

QD is a TBC daily quest hub, pretty much the equivalent of The Argent Tournament in Wrath. Unless you don’t have the WotLK expansion, there’s really no reason for you to spend any time there–you’ll get better experience and gear just by heading to Northrend. It’s where the five-man Magister’s Terrace and the TBC endgame raid Sunwell Plateau are located, and it’s the home of the Shattered Sun Offensive faction (like The Ashen Verdict of Wrath). The main SSO vendor is the ones that sell items for gold with rep requirements (Quartermaster). Then, you also have vendors who sell Sunwell tier gear–those are the ones that require you to trade in tokens (Exotic Gear Purveyor, although one of those is also a PvP badge gear vendor) for new tier pieces and other armor pieces (Transmuter of Sin’dorei Relics), to convert tier gear you already have.

Badges of Justice are what drop off TBC Heroics and raids bosses, and are also rewarded by the Heroic daily quests. You don’t get them from doing the regular dailies–those just give you money and/or reputation.

Yup. This should also include Honor, by the way.

Help. Please any advice would be great and much appreciated.

I must admit to you first I’m not a “computer person.” I know how to surf the web, send emails, play games, check my c:drive; basic things. So this is quite frustrating to me and I fear I may start to pull my hair out soon if I can’t find out why this is happening and fix it.:smack:

I have been having a problem with lag/latency spikes for the past month or so. I have no idea what is causing it. I’ve followed the advice on the WoW tech forums and sent them a tracrt to which they looked at and didn’t see anything wrong. I also deleted my WTF and Addons several times. I called my service provider twice, they ran a ping test and said it was working fine.

What seems to be happening is I sign on then sometimes my latency is red, then it goes to yellow, then it goes to green for a few minutes and it lets me actually play. Then, suddenly it goes back to red and latency’s in the 1000-2000-3000 range and it gets to be unplayable. Then, suddenly it will go back down to green (in the 100s) and I can play for a bit. And sometimes I sign on and it’s in the green (in the 100s) and playable and fun.

I play on a wireless system. The rest of my internet works fine. I can play videos, surf, all normal things that you do on the internet and they all work fine. I’m hooked to the wireless system through a lynksys router. I’ve tried to bypass the router and plug directly into the ethernet outlet in the wall. That does not help either.

I’ve updated my drivers, cleaned my computer, done everything I can think of but the same thing keeps happening and I just don’t know what to do besides go to someone’s house or somewhere else and try a different internet provider.

The thing is, this is something that has just started happening in the last month or so. I don’t have anything else connected to that wireless system; just the computer.

I can’t do the jousting quests. Last night I was in the middle of Halls of Lightning and got such lag it dc’d me.

Does anyone have any advice at all? I’m such a computer n00b you may have to describe things to me in layman’s terms. I do have my video settings on the lowest settings.

I appreciate any and all advice. And if you need me to supply any more info, such as system info, I can do that.

Thanks for reading my rambling wall of text.

Quick question for y’all - hunter take bow with higher DPS or higher attack power?

DPS, every single time. The only time you might ever concievably possibly in any universe do the opposite is if the attack power was bonus was so huge it vastly raised your DPS. And then it would still be a bad idea at high levels because many special shots use your weapon damage, where you want the slow single-shot than the sustained bonus from AP.

But you needn’t guess. Just swap the bow in an take a look at your damage changing. Because it takes a lot of attack power to increase DPS significantly, you’re unlikely to ever see the above scenario occur.

ladeda, I’m no network guy, but first play wired (into the router, not the wall) if you can, wired tends to be faster than wireless. And it sounds like either your computer or someone else is downloading stuff at the same time. Is your wireless secure? If you’re not trying to download porn or youtube videos while you play, it sounds like you have a piggybacker.

Seconding this. Weapon damage is worth something like 10 DPS per point in my hunter’s current gear, for example. Attack Power is 0.822. So basically you need 12 AP per point of extra DPS to make it worth it.

It’s so significant that the tanking weapon from ICC25 (BoE, so available on the AH) is the best weapon you can get outside of ICC, even though all of the secondary stats are useless. You’ll still get flamed for using it, likely, but it is the best DPS-wise.

Still no progress on ICC25 HMs this weekend - too many folks missing and too many people getting hit by Ghosts on LDW… getting frustrating being stuck on 8/12, tbh.

However, got in a lot of good play-time with my DK in Battlegrounds. Got Ironman in Warsong Gulch, Storm Glory and Bound for Glory in Eye of the Storm, and the 5000 HK achievement.

Got my resilience up to almost 800, so I think it’s time to finally take up my buddy’s offer and step in to the arena! /cry…

Also looking forward to the 10-man drake run on Tuesday (got Sindra HM down last week - one-shot even!). Be nice to finally have that on one of my toons.

In general, for this sort of question the “best” answer is to have Rawr running and do a quick optimize. I have taken to setting mine up with everything that “could” drop from a run marked as “available”, and running it to optimize before that run, so I know what I should “need” if it happens to come up.

Attempted to finish off my last two achievements for my ICC10 drake on Friday and Sunday. No luck. Spent over four hours personally (and the group spent over six hours) on Sindragosa, mostly with the same people fucking up over and over. IMO we should have dumped the dead weight no later than the first hour on Friday. Ugh. The *really *frustrating part is, by the end of the night on Sunday, we finally had a solid group and got a few good attempts in that *almost *made it, only to have somebody space out or a bad spike of RNG. :smack:
