New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Hold on you Fire Mages, Shadow Priests and Desto Warlocks…we wanna word with you. Oh, and you Fury, Arms, Feral cat and Ret Pallies…we got something for you.

Yeti, how about a summary for those of us behind internet filters?

They toned back the damage of the first three and brought up the damage of the second four.

Okay, but what I really want to know is if it affects priest healing. Are they reducing spellpower, or adjusting the amount of damage from specific spells? What mechanism are they adjusting?

For our BDL Inscriptionists (Awsmpallytnk and Proditio), may I please make a request for some glyphs for our Ret Pallies (I think there are 2 or 3 of us that are active, although I am only speaking for myself):

PRIME:
Glyph of Templar’s Verdict
Glyph of Crusader Strike
Glyph of Seal of Truth

MAJOR:
Glyph of the Ascetic Crusader
Glyph of Rebuke
Glyph of Holy Wrath

MINOR:
Glyph of Lay on Hands
Glyph of Blessing of Kings
Glyph of Blessing of Might

Let me know if you prefer that I provide the mats or if you have them on hand and would rather accept payment. This seems to be the optimal setup for Ret Pallies ATM. Thanks in advance.

Skammer,

First Post (yesterday) contained this:

Second post (about 3 hours ago):

Well see, there’s the problem. I suspect these are mostly teenagers and early-20-somethings who still think pro wrestling is a real sport, and have learned from pro wrestling that the object is not to simply win, but to win via underhanded tactics whenever possible and to completely humiliate your opponent.

FTR, it’s looking like mages are screwed as far as prime glyphs go at the moment. Some glyphs have been mistakenly classified as majors so… well, good luck with that. Blizz has said that this is a priority for them but I haven’t seen an ETA yet (unsurprisingly, I"m sure they’re dealing with a buttload of other issues)

Plus, the glyph of Mage Armor is MIA. No Trainer, no NR research, no books, no nothing. So the stocks that are up currently are the ones that were made pre patch and then that’s it until they’re fixed.

Since Yeti made a list of glyphs, I’m wondering what other glyphs different classes are using at the moment. From memory, the highest selling ones were fire mage glyphs I think? Pyroblast, etc.

I’m excited yet panicky.

I haven’t built my Shadow-offspec yet, but I guess I’ll have to take a good look at SW:D. I didn’t realize it had become so powerful.

Incidentally, I think if other Burning Dogs want to request glyphs, a better place would be the Burning Dog thread. Feel free to do so over there. (Though I for one probably won’t be in the game until late Sunday at the earliest).

ETA: and yes, Shadow Word Big Smiley is a pretty dangerous spell.

That would be an awesome spell.

Damn you. Soda through the nose HURTS.

Yeah…good idea…I repeated over there and I wish I could remove my previous request post. My bad.

[/QUOTE]

That’s pretty sinister. I have an spriest who has been know to spam SW:D to good effect.

Now I’m worried the next patch notes will go something like

See? Gnoitall uses the big smiley spell too.

Tab-dotting SWP on a trash pack and then running in circles to spawn copies of yourself is pretty hilarious, if not entirely optimal.

Now to check out smite-healing in disc spec.

Back in the day, wrestlers that did that were heels (bad guys) and hated by the fans. Of course, they were highly prized by promoters. A top heel’s job was to make people hate him so much they’d buy a ticket to see him get his ass kicked.

Now, the business has changed. There are no real babyfaces (good guys) and heels anymore. Popular wrestlers cheat to win matches. The guy ambushing his opponent with a chair backstage may be the most popular worker on the roster.

Society has also changed, and not in a positive way. Rude, thoughtless, obnoxious behavior is tolerated more than it should be. Honor, sportsmanship, valor, integrity, fair play…all are largely forgotten, taken advantage of, or openly mocked. The guy that plays fair is a sucker.

Makes me wanna puke. Maybe I’m a dinosaur.

Yeah, I used to be a big wrestling fan, then drifted away from it for a long time. When I checked it out again a couple years ago, I was pretty disgusted.

Yeah, I’ve got a bunch of 20-something guys at work, and their interactions are almost non-stop attempts to out-badass each other. And asking them to do anything is like a challenge to their manhood. Though most of them have toned it down a bit as they’ve gotten a little older (I’ve been working with some of them for 4-1/2 years now).

We’re gettin’ oooooold! (Well, I am.)
Working on my hunter now. I forgot about the removal of ammunition, and so I was all “WTF?!” when I discovered the 5000 Halaani arrows I’d just bought had turned into useless vendor trash :stuck_out_tongue:

I have 4 Call Pet spells (“Calls your first pet to you”, “Calls your second pet to you”, etc.) Yet only the first two seem to work. I had three pets before the patch - a turtle, a cat, and a ravager, but I seem to only be able to call the turtle and the ravager. Where’d my cat go?

I could get used to this “no mana” thing.

I Hope This Is Just a Bug Department: The mob tracking dots on my minimap don’t go away after I kill and loot the mobs. They stay right there, with no way to distinguish which ones are corpses and which ones want to make me into a corpse.

Holy crap, the grass in Nagrand waves in the wind now!

You’re not a dinosaur. You’re simply trying to cram WoW Battlegrounds into a completely different model. In a game of baseball, and, in fact, most professional sports, what matters after the game is who won, not the margin by which they did so. Once you have a considerable lead, there is no advantage to be gained by racking up additional points, other than to humiliate your opponent.

However, in WoW, you earn reputation, HKs, and Honor Points throughout the entire match. Continuing to fight after you have already won gets you further benefits (as, for that matter, does continuing to fight after you have already lost). Take your baseball analogy. Imagine that your standings at the end of the regular season were not based on your win/loss ratio, but rather on your total number of runs. Do you think anyone would stop trying to score runs after they had a considerable lead?

Or let’s look at another sport: golf. Do you think that someone who’s well under par and ahead of the rest of the players on the last hole should just say “fuck it”? Do you think anyone who goes for a hole-in-one on the 18th hole when he’s already in the lead is an asshole who deserves to be kicked out of the fucking game, with his clubs melted down in front of him first?

Battlegrounds in WoW are designed to continue to reward PvP activity through the entirety of the match, regardless of how far your team is in the lead. If you do not like the system, do not play the game. As I keep observing, and you keep ignoring, it’s a PvP problem with a PvP solution. The only thing keepig you from breaking out of being camped is your own team’s failure. You have exactly the same resources at your disposal as is the team that’s camping your GY: and, potentially, more, since you rez with full HP/Mana and they may be low from fighting you.

It’s not like it’s going to hurt this thread. Just that it’ll be easier to find in a couple days if it’s not on a thread that gets 2 pages of posts a day.
