New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

After reading the latest patch notes while the game was updating itself, I notice that the warrior class is taking a huge hit in battle abilities: 17% losses in some and 25% losses in others. Can’t say that I’m particularly happy about that, having played almost 2 years to get to level 80.

Or am I missing something (again)?

Thanks

Q

Well, I haven’t read the patchnotes, or even logged in yet, but I can speculate without external evidence as well as anyone.

  1. /admiral_akbar “It’s a bug!”
  2. rebalanced 80s to feel less like end-of-game, to make us want to get to 85. Or to make more headroom at 85 without feeling completely OP.
  3. general dislike of warriors. Problem is, that’s usually reserved for hunters.

Wow! (really - WOW). No lag whatsoever. Can’t tell if it’s my computer (recently cleaned registry/defragged) or the game, but I’m lovin’ it! No more falling into the canal in SW!!! Hope it lasts!

Q

'locks are complaining too. Hell, most everyone is!

Boats are loaded since they closed the portals. One can actually have a decent conversation with people now! (Well, for 2 weeks, right?;))

I don’t care how big a douche Garrosh is.

Orgrimmar is flipping amazing now.

It’s odd, how I totally agree with you in WoW but use every damn dirty trick in the book in EVE.

In my perfect world, someone wraps up Sylvanas, Garrosh, and Staghelm in a box, lets them fight it out, then drops the winner into the Maelstrom.

I’ve been making baby Horde with abandon to see the new lowbie stuff and I am just amazed. It’s like Christmas, Easter, and my birthday all rolled up into one. I also saw Org on my 80…amazing! I’m going to be SO lost for a while.

I like the “buddy” that some newbie zones give you. Zuni in the troll zone was annoying, but I felt bad for feeling that later. I liked the guy in Deathknell. I didn’t notice one for tauren, though…although that little flight as a spirit falcon from the mesa to Bloodhoof Village was worth giving that up.

I dunno, I had the impression that her episode with Varimathras scared her (a little bit) straighter. She comes off a bit less bitch-queen, at least to me. But again, Garrosh has his army garrisoned in her capital, so clearly she’s down a notch or two.

But Garrosh… I never saw that coming, from the quest chain where you help him in Nagrand as a scared and emo-depressed punk. I think I liked him better that way.

I had no lag at all while exploring the new SW, then eventually headed out to take a look at Elwynn Forest … and watched my FPS plummet to 15-17

Found Fishing and Cooking daily questgivers in SW, and as one would expect, there were two people mounted and AFK on top of the Fishing questgiver. God, they really need to implement a separate “Report Player” feature.

Anduin looks like quite the young stud (from my female toon’s perspective, anyway  )

Anybody know who the statue in front of SW Keep is? There’s no plaque. He’s posing with a 2h sword, so I don’t think it’s supposed to be Varian. SW Cemetery is pretty cool, though I wish the obviously “special” graves were marked to indicate who’s buried in them. Anyway, SW looks awesome. The new banks are awesome. Also, my question about extra innkeepers was addressed - the Pig & Whistle now has an Innkeeper, and there’s new inn & Innkeeper in the Dwarven District.

I wonder how many people are going to ride through an archway into where the Park used to be, and plummet to their deaths?

Westfall: It would appear that the Saldeans have a hot daughter they’ve been hiding from us all these years. There’s a Hope Saldean standing inside the tower at Sentinel Hill, next to Quartermaster Wossname. She says nothing when you click on her, though.

Ever since I saw how the various SW Citizens were dressed during the leadup, and now looking at some of the new NPCs, the RPer in me is really hoping these new clothing items will be available to players, whether through Tailoring or from vendors.

Oh, and AAAAAAAAAAAGH! They’re allowing flying mounts anywhere in Dalaran now! AAAAAAAAAGH! It’s like the want the asshats to have even better ways to cover up NPCs!

One should never do a raid/bg is one is sleep-deprived.

In Wintergrasp, at the end of the battle, I rode around forever trying to get back into the keep, and finally figured out I needed to “go into the light.” I knew that at one time…:frowning:

HP is now at 1015 - still not enough to buy anything decent, though.

No lag ever at any place: K3, Zul Grak, Dal, SW, Ex . Didn’t go to Elwynn though.

Dark Lady watch over you…

I had a sad farewell to Azeroth last night, spent most of the time just flying around looking at the zones and chatting with guildies. The EU patch is being applied now so I hope it will be finished when I log on tonight.

I did tank my second dungeon on my DK, The Nexus. No issues at all though I do find it quite funny that as soon as we zone in everyone inspects my DK (well at least they target me as I have target of party member displayed) I assume to check I am Blood and wearing tanking gear. Does anyone know if resting XP has been changed at all? As the XP requirements are being cut in Northrend my rested XP will be over the usual limit.

Hey Quasi, have you been to Westfall to see how they’ve fixed up Heather’s place?

Interesting observation - when you’re doing a profession, say, Cooking, and you hit the max skill points for your current level that profession, you get the achievement for the next level right then. You still have to hit the trainer before you can raise your skill; it just doesn’t make you hit the trainer to give you the achievement.

I have to assume it’s a bug that is allowing crafted flying mounts (flying carpets and roflcopters) to be summoned in the old world. They’re only functioning as floating ground mounts, but still, you can’t summon any other flying mounts in the old world yet.

The new graphics are gorgeous, and no lag for now! I’m looking forward to re-exploring the areas. Was the boat from Stormwind to Darnassus running a little bit faster? Oh, and extra flight paths in so many places! It will make it a lot easier to tough out those first 20 levels until you get a mount.

There was nothing that I didn’t like except for the adjustments in how to get to the Harbor in Stormwind because I started off in the park before I had to go there. I haven’t fought anything tougher than wild turkeys and the mobs around them, so I don’t know what the new warrior mechanics are like.

Re: Lag

Apparently, in my case, it is the game. It is 7:28 am, there’s hardly any player population in Zu’l Drak, but we’re flying jerkily already, wings go: beat, beat, beat (stop), etc. even when we’re just soaring.

Also my repair NPC isn’t giving me the anvil icon to click on. She just stands there, whereas my flightmaster’s icon is there and may be used.

It was great while it lasted.

At least I now know it isn’t my machine.

Thanks

ETA: Boat from SW to Valiance Keep seemed to be running faster last night.

Lost HP again this morning. From 1015 to 976.

I’m reallllly getting tired of this. Giving up 25 minutes on a BG only to have points taken away sucks.

This is annoying me more than anything at the moment especially as Blizzard haven’t mentioned a fix any time soon. The random Champion’s Seals loss just makes it worse.

I only had about 30 minutes to explore yesterday, but I took the flying taxis in a big circle around Kalmidor.

Org is awesome. Had to believe it’s the same city. Everything is kind of the same, but way different. It’s a lot more vertical too. Goblin refugees! I also noticed that Goblins have taken over the banks and AH and upgraded them. Took me a while to find the flightmaster. Like the new back door to Azshara, but it seems like that’s an awfully easy point for the Alliance to sneak in.

Speaking of Azshara, that rocket track is the coolest thing. Wheee! I rode it to the southern terminus, picked up the FP, then rode it to the northern terminus and was surprised to get an achievement for that. I could have ridden that for a while. I also love the new in-game map that shows you where the FPs and instances are. Odd that I still had a lot of FPs available, obviously none of the new ones, but some that still exist were no longer available (for example, Zoram’s Strand in Ashenvale). It just occurred to me that maybe I just need to pick up some new intermediate FPs to get to them. It won’t matter anyway once we can fly.

The big gash through Barrens is cool. And Thousand Needles is epic, filled with water like that. Stonetalon Mtns’ Charred Vale is more “on fire” then charred and the rest of the zone has practically been denuded of trees (poor Night Elves).

That’s about all I had time for, and unfortunately that’s the last of my playing time until at least Saturday night since there is no WoW where I’m going for Thanksgiving. Can’t wait to get back.

Meh. We’re at the tail end of the lame duck period for Northrend. Half the NPCs don’t matter any more, and the other half can be found outside Dal.

I am so happy about all the new stuff in the Dwarven District - there’s a bank and AH there now too. It used to just be the place where only Hunters and people who needed forge/anvil went (and the occasional tram user, I guess). I set my new hearth there.
