New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

If you’re asking about the mechanics, what I do is hit Enter to open up the chat edit box. Then I go to my Achievements list (usually Y), and navigate to the achievement I want to link. Shift-click, and the link shows up in the chat box. Hit Enter to send the link to the channel you’re in. They’ll see your progress on the achievement.

If you’re asking about the larger meta mechanics of pugs, then – well. I usually don’t pug with anyone who asks for GS or achieve linkage, so my experience is limited. However, I try to pug VOA every so often and try to cultivate friends outside my guild, which can result in pug invites for content. The pugging culture will vary widely by server, though.

Okay, finished Fires of Azeroth and Desecrating the Alliance. Got Ahune down (and got the pet). Now I’m bringing my shards of Ahune back to Luma Skymother (since I didn’t click for the quest BEFORE I got back to Dal) and then I’m going to tackle…shudder…juggling.

That reminds me … I honestly can’t remember why we all run and hide behind the pillars after Phase 1 of the Ingvar fight in UK. Everybody just does it.

For some reason, all this time I thought you were a paladin :smack:
I had the weirdest thing happen last night that made me ask, “Since when can hunters go invisible?” My mage had just desecrated the Bloodhoof Village flame in Mulgore, and she mounted up and started to ride away, when she got attacked by a blood elf hunter. The hunter didn’t manage to dismount her, so I had her just ride away back towards The Barrens as fast as possible and pretty soon she showed as “out of combat”. She rode a bit further, then stopped, looked around and saw nobody pursuing (wide-open ground, no place to hide), and dismounted to teleport out of there. The instant she started casting, BOOM! Hunter pet all over her and arrows flying! Same hunter. I have no idea where she came from - one second there was nobody there, the next my mage was getting killed. The hunter’s pet was a wolf, not a cat, so no stealthing there AFAIK.

Sigh. I just knew it would be my paladin that got the Frostscythe of Ahune …

Well, so much for that. When I asked, the raid leaders just restated the Mark rule and said nothing about making an exception. They didn’t say no, but they didn’t say yes, and I didn’t bother pushing the point. Oh well, after that run I’m 2 badges shy of getting my first T10 piece, so next 25-man I’ll be able to roll fairly on the Mark.

We had an interesting bit of loot drama with a pugger. He had 25-man Kingslayer, so he turned on Heroic mode for the Gunship Battle. He used his mainspec roll on one of the loot drops from that. When Saurfang went down, Deathbringer’s Will dropped, and he was bouncy and giddy and even got the highest roll. …Except that as he’d already used his mainspec roll, it didn’t count, and it went to the next highest roller. I gather he must have bitched the raid leaders out in whispers, because after a few minutes of silence he ragequit. We yawned and proceeded to 24-man Festergut and Rotface. 1 person dropping out of 25 is a 4% loss, but we gained 5% on the Strength of Wrynn buff this week, so hey, net gain.

We one-shot Fester, but Rotty took us 3 tries (first try, 5% health left. Second try, 9%. Sad to say, but with 25 people we would have one-shot him. We still got him, though). Sadly, we stopped after Rotty, and all I took away from the run (besides more rep, more badges, and more raid experience cough) is a single Primordial Saronite. I don’t want to sell it, because I got it during a guild raid, but it’s barely enough to do any crafting with. Any crafted 264 piece is going to require several more Primordial Saronite as well as a bunch of other expensive mats, and frankly the upgrade isn’t really worth it. I may just donate it to the guild.

In other news, Torch Juggling is evil.

Dark Smash. Theoretically everyone needs to run behind the pillar when Ingvar preps to do Dark Smash, but these days everyone is so overgeared that it’s no longer important, and it’s kind of evolved into a tradition of hiding behind the pillar while Ingvar resurrects, then coming out and beating him into a paste a couple seconds after combat resumes.

We made it to 73 tonight with quests over in HF, some of which are quite fun, and there are plenty of animals there to skin.

One quest I am having difficulty with is"There Is No Honor Among Birds" where one channels into a falcon and steals eggs from a hawk’s nest. I approach the nest, settle over it, right click and then find myself back on the ground without having gotten the eggs.

Checked Thottbot and they say click on “scavenge” but I don’t see that option.

Have y’all done this one and can you give me a little help, please?

Thanks

Q

Dreadful Roar actually, it applies a stacking debuff that increases shadow damage taken. If you hide behind the pillar you’ll avoid the one he casts as soon as he resurrects. But like you said, not much point these days since he’ll be pounded flat in a few seconds.

Still, it is good to do it for practice, both for the next time the devs come up with a “hide behind the columns” fight, and for those times you’re in your Warlockette-in-Training rather than your Plateman. Warlockette pancakes are not nice!

I think the scavenge option appears on your actions bars (which are changed when you change form) so click a button to perform an action not right click.

Professions

currently i have mining and skinning. What non gathering professions ar5e good for a warrior? Would it be worth picking up enchanting myself? And if so would it be skinning I should drop?

Blacksmithing will allow you to put extra sockets on your bracers and gloves for gems which is always good or pick up Jewellcrafting for the unique gems. Not a prot warrior myself so others may have different ideas but one of these two would be good and go well with mining.

Keep mining for the stamina buff (and cash from selling ore) and get it to 450 as soon as possible.

For some reason doing the tournament with a clothy doesn’t sit well with me and as my next 80 will be my lock think I’ll give it a miss.

Ok thanks.

Whoo-hoo! Got Flame Keeper!

I highly recommend downloading Juggler, as someone mentioned earlier. Turns an almost-impossible task into a doable one. You just /juggler, move the camera so it’s overhead, put the cursor on your toon, then roll the mouse wheel. And keep rolling. Even with Juggler, I had less than 1 second to spare when I hit 40.

And remember that once you do the first torch-catching quest (where you have to catch 4 in a row), you can BUY the torches from the festival vendor. You don’t have to do the torch dailies to get them.

What’s the drop rate on the new Ahune pet? It seems like someone’s received it in every group I’ve been in.

I had more fun camping behind the doorway near the bonfire in UC. I wait for an Alliance player to show up, cast Phychic Horror, then load him up with DoTs. They usually try to run away but don’t make it very far  I kind of felt bad for the level 40 Gnome I one-shot, but not bad enough to get him again when he came back.

Crossing my fingers to get into an ICC25 pug tonight - it’s been a month since I’ve been in a good one.

Can somebody help me out with understanding professions? On my main, I have 275 in blacksmithing and get to choose to be an armorer or a weaponsmith. The Ironforge blacksmithing trainer sent me to Tanaris to learn how to make armor from a member of the Thorium Brotherhood (trade thorium for plans). That isn’t part of the armorsmithing/weaponsmithing decision, is it? I haven’t committed to being an armorer by buying the plans, I hope. Is there another Thorium Bortherhood person I should see for weapons?

Also, from googling around, it seems that there are quests that have to be done to specialize, but maybe the quests were dropped in one of the updates. Is there a quest? Is it widely accepted that weaponsmithing or armorsmithing is better? My main is a fighter that mostly solos with 2 one-handed weapons but tanks sometimes with a one-handed and a shield. I will eventually want to get the talent that lets you dual-wield two-handed weapons.

Are the items you get from blacksmithing in any way comparable to quest rewards or drops?

(I don’t have Burning Crusades yet but will be getting it when I finish up Un’goro Crater and/or hit level 58 [55.75 now])

It seems to be pretty high. I got it my first Ahune run last night (I had to do two because I forgot to click the shards to get the quest until I had already teleported out of the dungeon, and Luma Skymother doesn’t apparently exist in “normal” Slavepens).

I did get this last night after I made several attempts by myself. I don’t know how they expect you to do that; even though I had a good, fast rhythm going between hitting the Torch button and left-clicking on the ground, there was still an extremely short cooldown on the torches that kept tripping me up. Even with Juggler, I had to keep the mousewheel going for a couple of minutes until the stars aligned correctly.

Given the amount of lag Dalaran normally gives me, I think I’m giving the torch-juggling a miss this year.

Try jumping the fence at Krasus’ Landing and doing it on the little apron of land outside of it. Much less lag and it’s still officially Dalaran.

I’ve heard the sewer exit (“Dalaran’s anus”) is also a good place to do it.
