New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

What if y’all wanted to take a look at everything I have in the auction through Double L (Wollkie)? Could you do it and if so, how?

Thanks

Q

Amen! I mean, doesn’t it make sense that the ability to say, dodge an attack, would at least be somewhat related to the ability to hit with an attack? And maybe parry could be something like, oh, expertise?

So there you go: Dodge->Hit, Parry->Expertise.

I like it… now all non-healing plate gear can be tank gear or DPS gear…

Oh, yeah…those godless little fish gulpers that strategically place themselves in tightly packed groups on open ice fields…muwahahahahaahahahahahaaahahhaahaa!!!
Say hello to my little Divine Storm.

btw…we only need 50k, not 100k…my bad.

After sending my paladin to Vashj’ir and my mage to Hyjal, and doing the first few quests in each zone, I’m thinking of just leaving them for a few days/a week to let the storm die down. At the very least maybe by waiting I’ll eventually be able to find the questgivers (in Hyjal, anyway) without having to burrow under a dozen drake mounts.

I’ve sorta been formulating a theory about these people who simple Will. Not. Dismount. unless they absolutely have to. I think it’s simple insecurity. They’re insecure about whether they’re “good” players or not, and having an epic flying mount represents “legitimacy” to them, and constantly sitting atop that drake reassures them that they’re “legitimate” players. Even if it’s just a Bronze Drake.

The people I saw in Hyjal crowded around the questgivers on their drakes last night were something else to watch. They weren’t just doing the usual “run up and talk to the questgiver without dismounting” thing. They obviously already had the quests in their logs, because they were sitting on their drakes near the questgivers, and each time one of the quest mobs would spawn nearby, they’d run over and kill it, then run back to their spot next to the questgiver and mount up again. And sit there and wait for the next mob to spawn. The display of laziness was downright awe-inspiring.

General chat in the new zones is a steady stream of “Where is X?” followed by “God, doesn’t anybody READ the quests?” over and over and over.

I went ahead and rolled up a worgen druid, though I didn’t have time to play him last night. In my first foray into “special characters”, I named him “Æthelred” :stuck_out_tongue:

Heh. The person I reported wasn’t doing any of that - they were clearly making their best attempt at being as unambiguously offensive as possible.

And just for the record, what are BRC and ToT?

It didn’t happen when I moved Jabloo from Zangarmarsh to Cairne, so it surprised me a bit. I went ahead and logged him in, and the “you need a new name” thing popped up. I tried renaming him to his original name, but it was unavailable. So I tried “Fedex”, and it didn’t work, then “Courier”, also unavailable. So now he’s named “Flosso”.

And dangit, you can’t skin the wild ones any more!

I was wondering in what areas I could get the most drops of money, and I found this guide: http://www.blizzardguides.com/best_grind_locations.html. Along with other items, this guy says you can make a certain number of g’s per hour, depending on which zone you’re in.

Since the AH is not as busy as it was before Cata, I thought that instead of farming leather and spider silk, I’d work only on money for a while (when I’m not busy leveling my Worgen).

What do you think?

Thanks

Q

Blackrock Caverns - located in Blackrock Mountain.
Throne of Tides - located in Vash’jir

5-man dungeons.

“The Alliance needs you…” is all I get when I click on the notices on the board in SW. i thought there would be different quests there?

Hit 84 today, tomorrow I should be 85 depending on how fun Twilight Highlands is. I really enjoyed Uldum, usually desert like areas turn me off, but this was a whole lot of fun and I look forward to going through it again… and again. While I was out questing I missed getting fried by Deathwing by all of 5 seconds. Flew into a temple for a quest, a few seconds later two guildies in Uldum get “Stood in Fire”. I tried getting out of the temple in time but no luck, oh well.

The only dungeons I’ve been in so far are Stonecore and Throne of Tides, I ended up leaving Throne of Tides because my pug group couldn’t understand the concept of an elevator, or that not interrupting the healers is a bad thing. Stonecore is a lot of fun and not as difficult as I thought it would be. So long as you pay attention and don’t stand in “bad stuff” it’s easy. Then again that’s true for most dungeons. Haven’t tanked anything yet, which I’m sure I’ll regret later, but I’ve been having too much fun questing to spam dungeons.

Now I just need to decide who I’m going to level up next.

I think you should do whatever you enjoy. There is no wrong way to play WoW, so long as you aren’t griefing others.

Also think the AH will come back, probably sooner rather than later. There’s going to be a ton of people leveling up new toons or exploring new zones for the first couple days, but the crafting side of the game will catch up eventually.

Never mind. Apparently there were only 2 quests ON the board.

“Portal to Stormwind” (Ironforge etc) in Dal: How come when I click on it, I get “You cannot use that item”? They appear right in the middle of the street?

Our guild had the same thing happen. Got to level 2 on the first day… bounced back to level 1 (Guildy said that Blizz had altered how guild xp was calculated for getting guild achievements shrug) and it clawed back up to 2 last night. We’re all waiting to see what level it’ll be today.

Oh, and Blizz, enough with the “You have maxxed out your guild rep for the week” messages! (Seems there’s a limit on how much rep gain a player can get with their guild faction each week. Based on last night I’d guess it’s 3,500 points. Other factions don’t have limits, why do guilds?) :dubious:

One cast by your Party / Raid member, or one that wasn’t? (Might seem a dumb question, sorry). The latter can never be used, but I’ve seen a few of the former being right buggy recently – 2 of us in party, same level, etc, mage casts portal and disappears, I get the message you mention. Huh? (Has to be a glitch I think).

The quests on the board are “breadcrumb” quests. They’re basically telling you, “go to this place”. It’s so you’re not wandering around wondering where you should go to find quests — it tells you where to go, and when you get there you’ll find quests.

Speaking of standing in stuff, I’ve noticed while leveling lowbie toons that some mobs now hit you with stuff you need to move out of. A good idea, I think. It gets across the concept early on that you don’t want to stand in stuff.

Been having fun in Mount Hyjal. There was a bit of a phasing issue - a questgiver disappeared so a bunch of us had no idea where to go next until someone clued us in that the questgiver would respawn.

Being able to fly in new zones immediately is kind of…well, easy. Mount Hyjal would be so much harder with just land mounts.

Speaking of land mounts, guess who got Reins of the Swift Spectral Tiger with their loot card? I was kind of hoping for the turtle, but this is awesome too.

In keeping with my plans to work some other toons, tonight I levelled my Blood Elf Rogue Tanus from 1 to 7. He didn’t have a lot of money for gear, so Wollkie sent him 50 g’s. The money never arrived and I played for 2 hours after sending it.

Maybe it will be there in the am.

By the way, I think thunderclap is kinda superflous.

I don’t think you can send gold from Alliance to Horde directly.

Scene: Hillsbrad Foothills

Observe the young zombie sorceress, purposefully picking her way through the zone toward the Azurelode Mine. Let’s listen in…

“Rassinfrassin stupid…if I’d known I was going to end up picking spider eggs off a bear’s hinder I’d have stayed in the damn grave…”

I thought Stonecore was pretty cool. Seems like Heroic could be pretty intense depending on how it’s tuned. Guess we’ll see.

Kinda crazy how many BOE blues seem to be dropping in the dungeons. Seems like 3-4 drop per run in my experience (which admittedly is only 4 runs). Actually now that i think about it, 5 dropped in my run of Stonecore: 2 wands, 2 cloaks, and a 1H mace.

But nothing appeared onscreen to stop it. Shouldn’t there have been a message of some kind?

Thanks
