You’re still in the phased starting zone for worgen, right? I don’t know that there’s a single mailbox in phased Gilneas, to tell the truth. I think you may just have to play out the zone and wait until you get moved to Rut’theran Village, then go looking in Darnassus.
Heirlooms are the equivalent of Rares, so presumably an Epic chest would be better at-level, at least as far as raw stats go. May not be worth giving up your 5% XP bonus, though.
Nope. The way the game is currently designed, the only Paladin spec that needs Intellect, Spellpower, Spirit, etc. is Holy (the healing tree). They changed it back in TBC so that there would be more stat overlap between the classes. However, you will still see lower-level gear that has things like Strength *and *Intellect. You don’t need to avoid it as much as you would on a Warrior, but it will give you very little benefit.
Look at caster stats as a bonus–not as something to actively seek out. For example, if choosing between something that has a small amount of Strength, and something that has a large amount of Intellect and no Strength, go for the small amount of Strength.
Delete. Gearscore. Seriously. It’s become 100% useless, weighting Wrath epics higher than Cata Rares, even though the latter have obscenely better stats. Your current Gearscore tells you literally nothing, and I don’t see anyone using it anymore, even when forming PUGs. Nowadays, people ask for your item level, which you can find on your character screen. Note that the number there is your maximum item level: an average of the best piece you have in your bags for each slot. It doesn’t necessarily reflect the gear you currently have equipped.
Nope, anybody can ride any mount as long as they have (a) the proper reputation and (b) the right level of riding training. Some mounts are only sold by certain vendors, though, so you might have to track down where to go.
Because it’s in a weird middle level of Herbalism. It’s too low for anybody max level to bother with it, but it’s too high for a casual alt to be able to gather it.
Actually, there’s one chocobo that everybody has a chance at. It has a small chance to drop off of KT in Magister’s Terrace on Heroic.
The Wowhead comments usually have pretty detailed information. You can probably also find videos by searching YouTube for “[dungeon] entrance.”
Unless you’re helping an Enchanter friend level their profession, or you’re an Enchanter yourself, I wouldn’t bother with it at all until you hit 85. Somebody mentioned 333 gear as the minimum to enchant at that point, and I’d agree. 346 is the highest you’ll get outside of raids/VP rewards/Arena rewards, so that’s definitely a point at which you want to start enchanting if you’re going to raid or otherwise want to boost your performance.
The Alliance JP/VP quartermasters are indeed in Stormwind, in… crap, what’s it called? Old Town? Anyway, it’s in one of those buildings that house the cluster with SI:7, Rogue and Warrior trainers, training dummies, etc.
Excellently done!
The Stormwind portal hub is in the northeast corner of the city, behind the Keep. You can see it looking out from the garden in the Keep. The Orgrimmar portal hub is up on the high ledge/cliff behind the Inn/AH/Bank in the Valley of Wisdom.
There are multiple mailboxes in the Worgen starting zone. The second you roll a character, there’s a mailbox in the center of the courtyard where you start. After your questing has taken you out of the city and into that small village (when you’re first in Worgen form), there’s a mailbox there, too. A good rule of thumb is to just turn on mailbox tracking when you first enter a new phase and check out where the mailbox is.
I GUESS I’m still in the “phased” version. I’ve never totally understood what that means. If it means I can’t go just anywhere I please, I guess I am.
Thanks. I did turn on mailbox tracking (on the mini-map, right?) and where I am now, there are none. I got that hat in a drop which auctions for 600 gold I sure would like to sell…
Thanks

So I’ve dinged 85 and going through Twilight Highlands. I’m a bit concerned with my lack of prep for Heroics, although I don’t expect to be doing them anytime soon (I still have regular dungeons the RDF hasn’t put me into!). I’m starting to get items around ilvl 322 so I’m almost hitting the ilvl cap for normals, right? But I’m still only outputting 5k DPS. I’m worried that even if I pick up some more items from regulars and work my rep so I can buy some gear and enchants that I won’t be able to hit the 9k DPS recommended for Heroics.
I am never healing a Cata heroic without at least 2 guildies again. It was H ToT and, well. Things got ugly. We went through a lot of DPS. eyetwitch A pox upon the RDF’s house.
On the other (less stressful) hand, my warrior’s now in Outland. He even got ceremonially pasted by the Fel Reaver as part of his welcome.
(completely unintentional – was pulping some demons when the screen suddenly got real full of big green and black metal feet. D: )
I hear you lizard. Most of my guild heroics (or mostly-guild) have been pretty successful, even if we got stuck on a boss. I have only had one pug heroic go as well and I’m shy of queuing for more. I’m sick of tanks with 110k health.
Phasing is something they introduced with WotLK. Basically, it means that two characters standing in the exact same spot will see different versions of the world depending on what quests they’ve completed. You could be standing right next to someone, but not able to see each other, if you were in different phases. When you do a quest and the world changes, that’s phasing.
1.) Regular dungeons give up to 333 blues.
2.) Is 9k really the recommended number for Heroics? I’d heard 5k, which would seem to me to be more of the equivalent of the 1.5k basement from Wrath. 9k would be more of what I’d expect for raiding.
Seriously? Wow.
I’ve had mixed results; probably 2 out of 3 bad. Today was pretty good; looked horrible to start with on ToT; had a buncha people drop out after we wiped a couple of times due to missed crowd controls and other mishaps on boss number one; just me and one dps left. I was contemplating dropping it but decided to keep going, and with the new crew we wiped one more time on the first boss due to bad tornado dodging and then the last time around got things to work; the rest of the bosses and trash were pretty easy.
I was worried about the last boss, in particular about keeping track of all the adds, but the dps was pretty awesome and just burned through the first set, and then we only got to four of the shadow beast thingies on the second set for me to kite before they finished burning the channeling dudes, which was doable.
My DK in Blood Presence has 102.1K health, and she’s in all Cata quest gear, no dungeon stuff.
Sorry, I meant “seriously, you’re getting tanks in heroics with that little health?” My guy who I don’t think of as particularly well-geared runs about 150.
Ah, okay! I was going the other direction with that. ![]()
By that I mean one (namely me!:)) has to pay attention to the GAME before trying to auction an item because Auctioneer doesn’t “know” that an item is “soulbound” and therefore not auctionable so it tells you to auction it.
I have had to teach myself to look at the TOP box before clicking an item I want to auction.
Another reason I like playing multiple toons is that they “help” each other out with items needed for professions. If Tailspin gets more linen cloths than she needs for First Aid, she’ll send the excess to Usum, for instance. They also send each other gold when they can upgrade gear. Double L serves as the “banker”.
Now all I have to do is keep 'em and their levels straight so I don’t try to fight an enemy a higher level thinking I’m playing a higher level toon when I’m really not.
Another mental exercise for your ol’ demented pal, Quasi!
Q
This thread off of the official forums was what I was going by. I’m doing about 5.5k right now in regulars. But people in this thread are saying that if you aren’t doing at least 9k you’re a hindrance to the group.
Whee, guild drama!
A guy and his buddy decide to pull out their mains and go do the Uber-Guild thing, leaving their alts in the guild. Fine, whatever.
Except we find out that they’re using a room in our guild’s Ventrilo server to talk to and vet potential recruits for the uber-guild. The server that my husband and I pay for.
Yeah, I’m seeing some Vent-ban action coming real soon.
Heh. I got used to going back to HP at level 80 for one reason or another (farming stuff, usually), and just hopping on my flying mount and hovering in the air when I saw that guy coming. He’d even walk right through me without aggroing, as long as I wasn’t touching the ground.
My night elf hunter later found out that doesn’t work as well at level 60-something. Saw him coming and jumped on my gryphon, and when Mr. Fel Reaver got to me he just reached out and slapped me right out of the air
And the main reason for it is that it makes it feel like you’re really “accomplishing” something. That is, you complete some major quest, and you see the world actually change around you.
I spent some time with my paladin on a training dummy, wearing only quest greens and blues, and I think a handful of rep pieces, and I maintained between 6k and 7k. I don’t know how that would translate to an actual dungeon situation, though.
I should mention I was also using an addon called Retribution Rotation Helper, which puts up a little window that tells you what ability to use at any given moment, based on the Elitist Jerks Paladin Rotation.
One of the things I like about the new expansion is that once you finish a quest, you don’t always have to go back to the quest giver. You just click on the message which appears on the screen and keep going.

Bye Exi. I thought this was going to be a fun experience, instead it’s what has been called here a “time sink” and I just don’t have time to run you all over the land trying to find a mailbox and a vendor who has more than just bread to heal you.
Maybe we’ll try it again later when Blizz fixes some stuff.
Q
Why do you need a mailbox, anyway? I’ve put three worgen through that starting zone without even feeling the need for one.
Blizzard isn’t going to fix anything in that starting zone. It’s exactly the way they want it.
At level 12, was I in a starting zone? The quest I was working on was rescuing people from a mine.
I felt handicapped because of the lack of a mailbox where I could have sent stuff out for auction and received g’s from another toon. I always thought that EVERY village, etc. would have one. Then in that little place where the spiders run around (and I used their inn as a home base) all the general goods vendor had was bread which provided a 58 heal factor.
Guess I’m just used to being able to choose from more than just one quest at a time as well.
I guess I could have ground till my next level, but where’s the fun in that?
I’m not the only one complaining about the lack of mailboxes in and around Gilneas. When I googled it there were other players who complained as well.
Then there’s the fact one can’t go to an AH until he’s completed all the quests in a particular area (I guess what you call “the starting zone?”), so I can’t really upgrade unless I get a good drop.
As I said before, I just feel hemmed in there.
Q
That whole beginning is the starting zone for worgen. Until you find yourself in Rut’theran Village after things come to a head in those starting questlines, you’re still in the starting zone. Both the worgen and the goblin starting experiences are phased like that. Apparently there ARE a few mailboxes. You’re not going to find anything other than low-level ores, herbs and leather to auction off, anyway.
I don’t want to tell you to bull through the whole thing if you’re bored or frustrated. But it’s somewhat rewarding if you finish it. You’re about 3/4 of the way through the whole thing right now, really, if you’re doing the mine.
