New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I haven’t seen it for a while, either, but it’s been a bit since I’ve used anything but my imp.

I hate the pet pathing in BRC–if I don’t remember to dismiss my imp before Corla, he walks all the way around to the ramp on the opposite side, pulling creation in the process. Totally my fault when it happens, but, really, they should fix that shit.

Hmm. I just did the Org fishing daily, A Staggering Effort, on my level 34 tauren paladin. I’m trying to figure out how he managed to take 38 points of damage by one-shotting the stag with Avenger’s Shield from 20 yards away. Does Blizzard have some “rule” that a melee class has to take some damage in combat, however insignificant, even if that combat was carried out with a ranged ability and the mob couldn’t possibly have hit your character?

Also, amusingly enough, I logged in my undead warrior to do the fishing and cooking dailies, and just before he logged back out I spotted a notification in the chat window that my spam-reporting addon had reported a spammer. Then I logged in this tauren paladin and immediately got another notification from the addon reporting the same spammer

Gotta say, I really like what they’ve done with some of the new pants models. By simply adding patterns — specifically, patterns that include a mostly-horizontal line where the buttocks meet the thigh — they’ve made pants that make it look like my human female toons actually have “proper” butts when they’re in pants!

Old solid-color pants vs. new patterned pants:

Basically, her butt doesn’t look so “flat” in the pic on the right.

I’ve been starting up a stable of Alliance toons on a different server from my Hordies, and EVERY SINGLE TOON has received an invite to join the same guild within five minutes of zoning in. I declined all of them…who wants to be part of a guild that recruits by spamming invites?

Happened to me once last week on my hunter, but they were small dance steps rather than staggering leaps across half the zone. But it’s definitely much better than it was before (much less frequent, much less pronounced).

Noob. I remember fighting the Beastly Fidos in Midgaard on various diku clones.

Blackrock and pet pathing… a classic wipe combination. Back in the day, no LBRS run would be complete without a hunter or lock pulling the entire instance of hallway mob packs when the raid jumps down from the balcony to the Blackrock Stadium floor to fight Rend and Gyth. Raid leader yells of “DISMISS PETS” were the order of the day.

My tauren paladin is in such a guild. It’s a guild specifically for people who want guild benefits without any of the normal guild commitments. Basically, a guild for solo-type people who don’t like guilds  The guild leader doesn’t just pop up a guild invite button in your face, though, he politely whispers to ask if you’re interested. A couple weeks after my paladin joined I was on my undead warrior and got the same whisper from him. In that case, I let him know my paladin was already in the guild, but that my undead warrior is remaining guildless for RP reasons. He liked the synopsis I gave him of the character’s backstory (this is the undead warrior who was a servant of King Menethil and is still loyal to the old Alliance of Lordaeron, and who is horrified to find he’s now “allied” with orcs and the like).

Yeah, this was just the “Join” button flashed in my face every time, no conversation or even a preliminary “Wanna join?”

Oh man, I totally forgot about that. Yeah, I remember earlier dungeon runs I accidentally pulled that way, but by the time…uh, can’t remember the name…Wrath dungeon where the final boss is the chick dragon with the hot voice :D…it was pretty good. My pet didn’t pull anything even though there were a lot of jumping off platforms. I don’t even think about it any more, I never dismiss my pet.

No more shield bash? I liked that one.

Well, it does to me, so I guess I know what that says about me, huh?

There’s a “Stuck” button for those situations in the Help menu. No need to wait two days just to have a GM take care of what you can do for yourself.

A misshapen, *evil *teddy bear from hell. Now I’m always going to freak out when I look at that map and not realize why!

What exactly is happening?

1.) Your character is getting knocked through the air to the back or to the side.
2.) Your character runs around and you have no control over it.

#1 is a knockback. AFAIK, you’ll always be knocked in a straight line away from the thing attacking you, so you’ll only go sideways, from your own perspective, if the mob is attacking you from the side.

#2 is a fear, confuse, or other debilitating attack that removes control of your character.

Sometimes you can avoid these kinds of attacks by interrupting the cast, or sometimes they’re caused by some sort of spell that’s cast on the ground, which you then have to move out of. Sometimes, though, you just have to wait it out. I didn’t see if you responded before–are you trying to kill this thing *before *you get the keg, or are you trying to get the keg *instead of *fighting it? Many mobs have abilities that will prevent you from looting any quest items while they’re attacking you, so that could be what’s causing the problems. Make sure you stop, fight the monster, *then *get what you came for.

Cata has really been the expansion where solo questing has come into its own. I can’t remember a single quest in the whole thing that actually required a group, while there *were *many epic quests where I was given some sort of extra ability or an NPC assistant (or several).

I endorse this request, at least partially because fixing pet pathing means they’d probably also have to fix the pathing for Heroic Leap.

I’ve never seen this happen, so it might have been a fluke, or the mob might have had some sort of damaging debuff on it (like a Thorns or Ret Aura equivalent). If you’d noticed it right away, you should have been able to scroll back through your combat log to find the ability that caused the damage, but at this point, you’ll probably never know for sure.

Spend a lot of time staring at Human female butts, eh?

Ugh, don’t get me started.

This won’t affect you very much, though, Quasi, since Wolkie is mostly Arms and Shield Bash is used in Defensive Stance, with a Shield equipped. If the change goes through, all Warriors would just use Pummel, in all situations, which is what Wolkie uses to interrupt as Arms.

The change to Shield Bash and Gag Order is aimed at nerfing Warriors in PvP, and it will harm Warriors who run dungeons and raid as Prot. It will mostly be a buff for Warriors who *solo *as Prot, though, since they more rarely have a need to silence (vs. interrupt/lockout) casters.

Absolutely. I’ve slid through several quest chains that in BC or LK would have said [Suggested Players: 2/3/5], but it seems they’ve designed a new semi-Elite that has twice the HP of a normal mob but isn’t any more dangerous. So when I have to take out a boss, the fight is longer than usual and feels epic, but is wholly doable solo. And when they do have you go after an elite, they always offer some kind of mitigation, usually in a believable way (killing the elementals to take out Haethan Kael in Deepholm was pretty awesome).

I really liked the “epic boss fights” where you had to go run around and click things, or kill the critters messing with your casters, or whatever (notably the final fights in Hyjal and Twilight Highlands); they give a bit of the flavor of a five-man or raid encounter without the incredible dullness of the “stand around and cheer for Thrall” plod-a-thon that was the Battle for the Undercity.

Removing shield bash isn’t a PvP change. Nobody PvPs with Gag Order and Shield Bash was only used in weird niche situations, like when you had a shield out for Reflect or Wall but somehow got into melee range. Switching to your shield in offensive mode is bad because every time you switch weapons, you reset the weapon swing timer which destroys your white damage (and your Rage). That means no pressure, which is what warriors need to do. If you had shield wall up or spell reflect against a caster, you probably weren’t in melee range to land a bash anyway. I don’t know why Shield Bash was removed, but I can’t imagine it was for PvP.

The removal of Shield Bash is a PvP change, mainly aimed at Prot PvP, as a result of the change to interrupt hit mechanics across all classes. *Everyone *who is talking about this change in any kind of reputable medium is talking about it as being motivated by PvP balance, because they (and I) understand the mechanics of this class.

ETA: And don’t ask me for cites now, ‘cause I’m at work and can’t find them. Just Google it yourself, or start from the Warrior column at WoW Insider. Seriously… If you dont’ think this change is PvP-motivated, you do not understand Warrior mechanics.

For SFG: getting knocked back so he/she isn’t facing the enemy, and I have to maneuver them with the mouse to get 'em to face correctly again.

Happens to Wolkie in Gundrak too, when the raptors jump over him. Turns him right 'round, baby. Right 'round! Same thing: have to maneuver him with the mouse.

Speaking of Gundrak: You know, with all those little bunnies running around everywhere, I have always wondered if there’d be collateral damage should one get in the way of a fight?

Well, a little while ago, I watched as one of the raptors just pounced on a little guy and killed his ass. And then turned around and walked off. Didn’t even take him to eat.

I think that’s pretty crappy planning. They are, after all, carnivores.

Plus it’s mean.

Thanks

Q

There is no Prot PvP. Prot PvP has been dead since Jigz dominated Season 7 (maybe it was 6) and Blizzard nerfed it into the ground.

The first thing I find on this WoW Insider site is “Gag order is motivated by prot warrior silences” It ain’t me who doesn’t understand warrior pvp mechanics. It’s this “Matthew Rossi” and his readers.
