New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Our first tries on Shannox we did that, since him and his dogs are taunt immune and we thought you were supposed to tank swap to deal with the debuffs. We quickly found a more sane way of dealing with them.

I wish I could have! I ended up restricting myself to tier helms, shields, weapons, rep rings, and the occasional trinket, because I was just out of room otherwise. I’ve just got too much other soulbound stuff that I can’t send to a bank alt: clothes, tabards (and tabards and tabards and tabards), trinkets and items with fun effects, old currency that will probably never be used again, quest rewards that are so awesome I’ll never use them, etc.

They haven’t clarified (or possibly even decided) yet exactly what will determine which gear is eligible for you to use as a cosmetic model. The one restriction we know about is that it must be gear you could actually equip (sigh, there go my dreams of Warlock T8 or Paladin T2). It hasn’t been said yet whether you need to actually have the gear somewhere in inventory.

My WAG is that if they restrict it to gear you’ve actually had in your posession, they will *not *count gear you’ve deleted/sharded/vendored, since looking up that information takes time, and there’s no way they have the manpower to do it for 11 million accounts, with up to 50 characters per account. So it will probably end up being (a) gear that you have somewhere in inventory or (b) any gear that your faction, class, and level could equip.

Oh, the “ugh” wasn’t for you–it was for the thought of having to manage every tank swap in the game without taunts.

Oh, I hear you. I pretty much did the same thing. I can’t bring myself to get rid of cool looking weapons, and I usually save the visible parts of my tier sets (and the stuff that matches them, like boots). I don’t save helms since I never show them.

Yeah, I think you’re right. I just hope they don’t allow people to swap to things they don’t own (or never owned). I’m kind of proud of my new Sulfuras, and it would be a bummer to see every random Tom, Dick and Harry running around Orgrimmar with it.

Ooh, I wonder if this means I can transmogrify into Shadowmourne or Thunderfury? Oooh x 2…when I’m dual-wielding as DPS, could I transmogrify BOTH of my 1-handers into Thunderfury?

::happy dance at the thought::

If they open the field to all equippable gear, I wouldn’t be surprised if they still put restrictions on (a) the current top tier of PvE and PvP gear and (b) all Legendary items.

They’d better restrict it to owned items only, or at least anything below the actual item’s ilvl. I’m not even playing and I’d be pissed if some yahoo could deck himself out in the latest tier gear and the coolest high-end weapons without going through the effort to get them. I can’t imagine how loud raiders would shout. The aesthetics are half the reason to pursue items.

Oh, I hope they don’t do that. If you actually have a Legendary item, I don’t see what the issue is with letting you Transmogrify something else into it. (I currently have both Shadowmourne and Thunderfury, so I wouldn’t be cheating.)

If they do that, I will have to start farming BT for those Warglaives. Those things are cool and I must have them!

Yeah, I’m already starting to plan out gear farming runs in my head. Of course, I need the patch to go live so I’d have a place to *store *all the damn stuff!

You stay away from me.

Haha! Hand 'em over and nobody gets hurt!

I snorted so hard I think my nose actually whistled.

So, when did I just magically get all flight points?

Anyone ever play a Goblin? My wife just started one, and the starting area looks like a ton of fun…

Joe

Same time I did, I guess. Lots of them just appeared for me yesterday or today in outland.

Joe

Did we get all the flightpoints in the last patch? At least, I noticed it several weeks ago on my worgen.

And personally I found the Goblin starting area very fun, especially the vehicle quests. Wait until you get to fly a fighter plane and shoot down gnomes!

I like both of the Cataclysm new starting zones, but (you knew there was a but) the on-the-rails nature of them makes me less likely to start new toons of those races. Because both the goblin and worgen areas are phased, you HAVE to complete the quests IN ORDER, and completely, otherwise you don’t ever get to go on to the wider world. Once through them is fun and great. Twice is still okay. Third time and on? Not so much.

So, you might remember that a year or so ago my account got hacked. I learned of it when I tried to log in one day and my account had been suspended for spamming. Remarkably, none of my toons or gear or gold were stripped although a few UI settings were changed. I reset my password and got an authenticator and no problems since then.

Fast forward to the present - I got a new smartphone recently and added the WOW Armory app. I’m scrolling through a list of my toons and at the bottom I see “Cbettydespvv - 1 Human Warrior - Nathrezim” and “Maggiedesosf - 1 Human Warrior - Khaz Modan.”

I’ve never rolled a human warrior in my life. Apparently the hacker created these level one toons for spamming and I never noticed, since toons below level 10 don’t show up in the normal armory. I’ll probably just delete them but it’s weird they’ve been there all this time and I didn’t notice.

I agree with jayjay. Doing the Goblin and Worgen starting zones at least once is really fun, but it’s a highly structured experience, so it will get less entertaining the more times you do it. Have you ever started more than one DK? Remember how obnoxious it was to have to go through the entire starter zone every time, doing every single quest, with no option to go anywhere else or ignore the quests you didn’t like? Okay, now imagine that, except *even longer *and with more phasing (read: more chances for something to bug so that you have to open a ticket to progress).

How do you display the list of servers when you’re switching between them? Mine are sorted by the number of toons I have on each one; that should tell you at a glance where any extras are. (Assuming, of course, that you actually remember how many characters should be on each server–which isn’t always the case if you’re like me, an altoholic who’s also rolled lowbie toons on a couple of servers I’ve never otherwise played on to do things like say hi to a friend or talk to a potential new guild).

I almost never switch servers; all the toons I ever play on are Cairne. I have a couple low-level toons on Alleria and a few others that I play if Cairne is down, but that hasn’t happened in a while.

Oh man, I remember when all of my toons were on one server. Those were good times. Simpler, anyway, and much more convenient for sharing mats, craftables, and gold across characters.

Am I the only one who doesn’t have a set of gear they’re excited about transmogrifing to? I dunno, none of the hunter tiers really look good. The only one I like is the tier 8 horde, which of course I’m the wrong faction for. I know there’s an external modelling app - is there such a thing as premade sets you can look at with it?
