New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I’m in a smallish 18th level guild that’s not very active and have a level 65 rogue. Is there a way to randomly join a 20 or 40 man raid, or how does that work?

There’s not too many 40 mans left and no one does them at level any more, instead grabbing 15 high level people.

Your only option right now is to watch Trade chat and see if people are asking for other to join a raid, which doesn’t happen too often for low level content. But because of transmogrification coming up in the next patch, people are starting to do low level runs again - just make sure to get the loot rules beforehand.

Next patch we’re getting a Raid Finder (like the Dungeon Finder) though, so some time in the next couple of months it’ll be better.

So fucking sick of kick immunity in the RDF. This is why I never queue with a group of less than 3/5 guildies/friends on my main: it’s just not worth the fucking hassle. But now I’m leveling a couple of toons through the RDF, and it’s driving me fucking insane to be stuck with slackers and assholes I can’t get rid of, either because the system thinks I’ve kicked too many people or they’ve been kicked too many times.

When a pair of DPS show up wearing shields, one of them barely beats my DPS (as the healer, an Atonement Disc Priest), and the other mostly just follows their friend around without so much as autoattacking (doing about 150 DPS at level 65), I should be able to kick them. But nope! My options are to carry their worthless asses to more gear and XP or drop group and wait out my own deserter debuff. Awesome.

How about the winner who, when I politely asked him to stop dropping ground AOE immediately on pulls, before I was *physically capable *of gathering up a pack (Feral Druid, so I need to have everything in melee range and in front of me to use Swipe), started whining about how I’m a horrible tank if I can’t get aggro before he does (when he’s putting down Flamestrike while the mobs are still scattered), and that he *totally *knows about tanking because he has one… and “proves” it by saying that when he needs to gather a pack, he drops a Consecrate and hits Righteous Fury. When I, laughing my ass off, point out that RF is a buff you have on all the time, not an ability you “hit,” he continues to insist that he’s right and I’m wrong, telling me to “look it up” (even after I’ve posted the link to Wowhead showing it’s a buff). Oh, and the whole time he’s using “your” for “you’re.” And linking damage meters over and over. But, nope! Can’t kick him, either.

/nods…

One of the things that not playing much the last few weeks has done for me is clarify what I actually enjoy doing in-game and what I just did because it was the easiest way to get gear or to level (and, thus, felt “required”).

So when I was able to log in last night for the first time in quite awhile I queued with some friends to play Warsong Gulch, even though I already have the meta for that BG and no need for Honor Points. It’s downright relieving to be doing something because I want to rather than feel like I need to.

And if/when I go back to leveling the Shaman I’m sure as hell not healing slackers through random dungeons. Questing through the deserter buff (or, hell, fishing through the deserter buff) is more fun than that bull.

I dread to imagine what the “Random Raid Finder” they are proposing is going to look like…

I hear ya. Boy, do I ever. We had one of those in a ZG run, a full PVP-geared hunter who was essentially ‘screw the group, I am staying alive’. That doesn’t work real well on Jin’Do, let me tell ya. None of us could boot him, either. Who thought it was a good idea to make people kick immune, anyway? I’d think it would be clear that if they’re getting booted that much, there is Something Really Wrong in Denmark.

…And then in ZA there was the druid who decided to go kitty instead of resto, and proceeded to tell my arms war that she could do more dps than him after Malacrass. When he was more or less polite to her after her iffy healing (Lady, if you know you get distracted that easily, you might wanna do something about it). Orly. On the end boss, I then proceeded to blow past her by about 3K. I did think about posting the meters for a few seconds before dropping group, too… :stuck_out_tongue:

Speaking of which, it seems that the consensus is that stance dancing for increased dps as arms is viable once more. I’ve tried it, but man, do I ever eat floor as a result in pugs. I’m not sure how you fury wars manage it.

Did they take away the ability to use add-ons in trial accounts in 4.2.2? When I was playing last week, I could use all of my add-ons. I just downloaded 4.2.2 today and suddenly I don’t even have an add-on list button on the character selection screen, and everything in the interface is back to default.

Jas09, I saw you come on last night (as Darland right?). Next time you feel like doing some PvP let me know, I’m always looking for someone to queue with or even for RBGs.

Sure thing, I’ll keep an eye out for ya when I’m on - feel free to send me a tell too.

Yup, it’s a game–it’s supposed to be fun! Really frustrating when you’re also cheated out of doing things that *should *be fun because you get stuck with idiots.

No clue. The only people I know who like the “feature” are fucking trolls.

1.) Not sure what you mean by “eat floor” as a result of stance dancing.

2.) Fury Warriors don’t have to switch stances for anything but Shattering Throw, so I’m not sure what you mean by that, either.

That sounds really weird–it should all work the same way, right? If I think of it, I’ll check my alt account when I get home.

Have you checked your addon folder? Maybe it got wiped or something when you updated.

No, the add-on folder is there and all of the individual add-on subfolders are there, too.

Sorry, unclear. I was referring to Berserker stance which is the default fury stance, nu?

I tried stance dancing in a ZA pug and winced a lot as I ate floor due to the increased damage taken as opposed to battle stance. I consider myself reasonably good at not standing in shit, but this was getting a bit silly so I swapped back to non-stancedance macros. And IME as a healer, fury wars do seem to eat floor more. Maybe I’ll try it again in a different run and see if I can improve at not eating splash damage.

You have a regular account, too, right? So the addons are there for the regular account and not for the trial, is what it sounds like? I’ll try to remember to check on this when I get home for sure.

Fury Warriors take exactly as much damage as every other class. They redesigned the stances a while back: no stance causes you to take *extra *damage, but Battle lowers damage taken by 5% and Defensive lowers it by 10%. Switching stances should just put you on par with every other non-tank class that doesn’t have some kind of active damage reduction. Do you have any other max-level characters at the moment, and do you have the same problem on them?

For anyone else, I’d recommend the shit out of GTFO, but IIRC you’re deaf, and it only comes with obnoxious alert sounds, not screen flashes. IME there’s a lot of environmental AOE in the Zandalari instances that is a huge bitch to *see *whether or not you’re actually in it, since it either clips through the environment or extends beyond its animation.

The main solution I can think of for you is to pay really close attention to your combat log. Do you use MiksScrollingBattleText? If so, you could set up a scroll area just for incoming damage, so that you’d be able to pay special attention to when you’re taking damage and what from, so you can move out of it if it’s still hitting you where you thought you were safe.

Another option would maybe be Power Auras, though I’m not sure how much setup would be required to get that to give you alerts for things like general incoming damage, incoming damage from specific abilities, etc.–or if such a thing would even be possible. It’s one of those amazing addons that I’ve always heard rave reviews of but been too lazy to set up for myself.

Leaving aside old issues that are now obsolete, like Deathwish causing increased damage taken, that’s probably because they’re the most likely to pull aggro when geared and played properly. (Fortunately not such a concern since the recent changes to tank threat.) They put out more TPS than any other class and spec (over the length of a boss fight), and Warriors have no native threat drop, or even a threat hide like Fade. There’s an old joke-only-seriously I know I’ve quoted in this thread before: “Warriors have a threat drop–it’s called battle rez.”

I can’t really check. My regular account is frozen (can’t afford the subscription at the moment) so I can’t get in to the character selection screen to see.

Aha. I’ll check for you at home, then. Or at least endeavor to remember to do so.

Figured it out! I had one of those security scam malwares last week before I went on vacation that made everything a hidden file. I got rid of the malware, but only made the files visible…I didn’t actually unhide them all. I unhid the WoW folder and subfolders and the button shows up again.

Thanks, to those who tried to help.

Is the Beryl Quarry (slay 12 Beryl treasure hunters, given by Etaruk just outside the Coldrock Quarry) still a valid quest? I’m trying to get some rep with the K’aluaks and this quest supposedly gives you 250.

I ask because I’ve been to Moaki Harbor and Kalakas (K’aluak posts) and can’t find anyone to give me a quest.

I have looked for Etaruk, but cannot find him. Wowhead has some comments about it, but they are from 2008.

If I have done this quest before (and I think I have), would it be offered again?

Thanks

Quasi

The Beryl quarry is actually in neither of those places. It’s at the start of the path that leads up to the Amber Ledge.

Yeah, I finally found Etaruk, but he isn’t offering the quest. I just haven’t been able to find any quests offered by the K’aluaks - dailies or otherwise. I did once from Moaki. I was sent to capture 12 of those baby animals - another quest I do remember having done before, but that has been the only one.

is it possible that if I do any quest for any faction, I might get rep from the K’als?

Thanks

Q

Quasi, have you looked in your quest log? Is it possible that you picked up a bunch of Kaluak daily quests a while ago and didn’t either do them or turn them in? If so, they’re still going to be in your quest log, and you won’t be eligible for new dailies until the day after you turn them in.
