New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Fold it into Devotion Aura, maybe? A ret pally switching from Retribution Aura to Devotion Aura wouldn’t be too different from a warrior switching stances from Battle to Defensive, in that both are giving up extra damage in favor of better defense.

What you say makes sense. After all, if we’re going back to the five primary stats on gear (with a few minor exceptions), then a tanking Warrior or Paladin is going to be looking for the same gear as a DPS: Strength and Stamina. There may be gear with more Stam than Strength or vice versa, but on the whole both stats contribute strongly to tanks.

Wow. They’re sure trying to make Smite a spell people will actually use. Wonder if a Holy/Disc dps build will be plausible.

… having played a bit more: you can apparently get either Surge of Light (Your spell criticals have a 25/50% chance of causing your next smite to be instant) OR Penance, but not both. Bummer.

I use Smite a lot, as it is. When I’m healing heroics my rotation is: Shield, Renew, PoM, PW:Pain, Smite, Smite, Smite, Smite…

That’s only because you don’t have Penance.

Ok so I bought my new wireless mouse. It’s a LX310 Laser cordless keyboard and mouse combo system. It has two extra buttons. I want to map one of them to the left action bar slot 10 but don’t know how to do this.

I tried to go into binding but it doesn’t do anything when I click that button

Mod note: Going to merge this with the general WoW discussion thread, since it looks to be related.

ETA: Heck, that didn’t work. System hiccup - I’m going to see if I can up those posts again by Quasi, Mlees and Skammer.
ETA2: Crack, the hamsters ate the thread! Sending a PM to Quasi.

I freaking love this guild. We did our 25 man run tonight. It took us half an hour past the start time to fill out the raid with puggers, but it was well worth it because the RL made sure to pick quality people. I was a little concerned I’d have to sit out because I’m still gearing up, but the officers were completely unconcerned, just as on Tuesday, and I was the first healer invited into the raid.

The raid itself went smooth as silk but for a wipe on Festergut and Rotface each. Rotface made me nervous because there’s so much going on, and the officers actually started barking at me when I caught a Small Ooze and got confused as to where the kiting tank was. :frowning: The first fight where I had to do more than spam Holy Light, and I make a fool of myself.

Despite that, downing Rotface was…epic. We did the best we could, but people started falling:
Some DPS here, a couple healers (including me).
Then one of the three tanks went down.
A few more DPS and healers.
The second tank went down.
And so it went until the only people standing were the last tank with only a sliver of health and a mage who’d somehow escaped the slaughter. Rotface was down to 100k…then 80…then 50…then 25…then 10…5k…700 health…1…and dead. It was insanely close; I don’t think the tank had much more health than Rotty did. Since the tank was a Pally, she started rezzing healers, and we all rezzed rather than ghosted as a sort of celebration. That was one of the tensest moments I’ve ever had in this game. So much fun. Sadly, we stopped there, or rather after downing Sister Svala. We doled out the end-raid loot while I looked in on Valithria Dreamwalker. I have every intention of eventually doing that fight, and I’m looking forward to helping the guild get there.

Loot-wise…I continued to make out like a freaking bandit. I did the weekly just before the raid and was able to pick up a 245 ring to go along with my Ashen Verdict ring. Marrowgar dropped plate caster shoulders, so naturally I used up my one mainspec roll on them. Festergut then dropped a plate caster helm. At the time, I was still wearing the Argent Crusade reputation 200 helmet. The raid leader made a unilateral decision and just passed it straight to me, which upset the Pally tank who later owned Rotface as she was building a healing offspec. But I can understand the GL’s reasoning: giving it to me keeps it in the guild, and it’s such a massive up that it would do wonders for my effectiveness, which it most certainly did. Unfortunately the T10 helmet is better itemized for Holy Light Pallies, so I’ll be replacing the helm once I can :frowning: Also got the Epic achievement in the process. :stuck_out_tongue:

After the raid, another guildie gave me a scroll of Enchant Cloak - Greater Speed after I mentioned my enchanter was completely starved for mats and couldn’t get it yet, then gave me 400 gold. And naturally he wouldn’t hear of my objections. It’s just as well. I’m going broke trying to keep up with all the upgrades, and I’d say it’s one of the best problems to have in game. I’m just glad there won’t be another raid night until Sunday, though. I need some time to start making money again. Still, all in all, I am ridiculously glad I signed up with these guys. Aside from BDL and Guns and her cronies, they’re some of the most competent and easy-going people I’ve met in game, and even though most of the core of the guild is people who’ve known each other for years, they’ve been incredibly welcoming and friendly so far.

Strange, those should be automatically recognized as Mouse 4 and Mouse 5. Do they work in other applications? If not, it might require a driver to recognize those buttons, although that seems weird these days.

I would kiss you if there wasn’t a huge ocean in the way and frankly I’d be worried about you killing me… this worked like a dream last night and will speed up my Crusader grind immensely.

Does anyone know if you can set options in Threat Plates using a macro? I’d like to change my Threat Plate role depending on whether I shift into bear or cat.

Grats Bosstone sounds like you’ve found an excellent guild there.

It doesn’t look like it’s possible, although I’m just reviewing addon screenshots. It’s configured to auto-switch between specs, but I don’t know that it can be tied to a macro for switching between bear and cat. You might be able to do some scripting within a macro to trigger the change, but you’d have to know LUA for that.

Speaking of which, I think I just figured out why the plates looked so ridiculously huge for me in Ony10. I forgot to try reinstalling Tidy Plates last night, but the plates worked perfectly the whole time in ICC and didn’t blow up on me. I’ll have to check on Nahren when I get home tonight, but I suspect I’ve got him in Tank mode rather than DPS, and it was showing all the mobs I didn’t have aggro on as big warning signs. That explains why it never happens while soloing, too. :smack:

Bosstone, grats on your guild and ICC progress. It kind of makes me envious and tempted to apply to a raiding guild, but I’d hate to leave the BDL especially as we are finally tackling 10-man content. I’ll just have to make due with the pugs when I can get them, although I’m jealous because I still haven’t even downed Rotface. I am close to getting my fourth T10 piece, though. I think I need 14 more Frost emblems which theoretically I can get tonight if I get a chance to do a random, the weekly, and enough of ICC.

Thanks the manual option is no major problem really apart from the first pull after you forget, cat with huge plates or bear with lots of small plates and confusion.

shuffles shamefully back into thread

So I, err, checked the Curse page for Threat Plates (why do that when I can lazily ask here you may ask?) and found this:

/tptp - Displays options
/tptptoggle - Toggle Role from one to the other. (Usable in macros)
/tptpdps - Toggles DPS threat plates. (Usable in macros)
/tptptank - Toggles Tank threat plates. (Usable in macros)
/tptpol - Toggles nameplate overlapping. (Usable in macros)

I should be ashamed too, I looked right at it when trying to see if I could answer your question. I just didn’t read that section. :o

While we’re on the subject of people being too lazy to read man pages, anyone know if you can set up healbot to use macros in place of spells? I’d like to auto-apply my “next spell costs no mana and has a greater chance to crit” ability every time I use Penance or Prayer of Healing, and probably trigger my +spellpower trinky as well when I use PoH.

Mixed bag yesterday. Started out in the group that was going up against H-PP25. Buuuuut after I crashed twice in ten minutes (both times outside of combat, fortunately), we agreed it would be best to swap me out, since there was no way of telling if it was a fluke or if my computer was having a crash-happy night. So, sitting always kind of sucks. But, I missed out on nothing but a night of wipes. (But, who knows what would have happened if I’d been in there…) But I got to run a random with a fun group of PUGs. But I ended up in a really fail VoA25 group (I left after only two wipes–I don’t have your patience, Mister Rik–when it was clear that there was no way we were getting Toravon down). But but but…

I’m really looking forward to a night when I can do this with some friends. Big family shindig on Saturday, so I dunno if it’ll happen this weekend, but my god, it sounds like fun. I figure we can start solo, get as far as we can, then team up and keep going.

If you need something, roll Need. Something like a bag, everyone needs. Only Greed if you plan to vendor it. (Alternatively, get an addon like teksLoot that shows you who’s rolled what before you roll, and wait to see that everyone else rolls Greed before you do so.)

Three possibilities.

1.) Mirror was on you and people didn’t stop DPS.
2.) You were standing in a void zone (probably not, or you’d be dead).
3.) You weren’t moving out of the ghosts (probably not, or they wouldn’t have hit for that much).

If you didn’t know, potions are cooldown + once-per-combat. This means that the only way to “use” more than one for a fight is to pot just before entering combat (“pre-pot”), then again any time after the CD is up.

Unless they changed it since I dropped Herbalism, no it doesn’t. It’s an instant-cast HOT.

That would break too much Paladin utility, if all tanks had to run Devo Aura all the time. What if there was a fight where you needed a certain type of resistance and there was no one else to provide it?

If you guys aren’t doing so already, here’s a good idea: Have the kiting tank pull out a non-combat pet. Mark the non-combat pet with a raid icon that won’t be used by a bossmod during the encounter (I think circle or square usually works well).

You can’t just mark the tank, because that mark will get removed if they get the debuff.

Wait… there was some *question *as to whether a piece would go to someone’s mainspec or offspec? :dubious:

Other than their loot system, which seems a little weird (and the ability of the RL to just overrule loot rules whenever they want is a little iffy), these folks sound awesome.

Are you switching specs when you switch forms? Because I know my TPTP always automatically changes between tanking and DPS when I go from Prot to Fury.

Awesome to hear about your new guild, Bosstone. Very cool to hear you enjoying end-game content and making out like a bandit. Hope it continues.

And sorry to hear about you having to sit on Heroic PP, SFG. He is definitely no pushover. Unfortunately for me, our realm was one of those that were down for 24 hours on Tuesday, so we had to plow through content on Wednesday. We also had a pretty terrible run, and have Festergut/PP/LK still up (we can usually clear 11/12 in one night). So, probably not going to have Heroic LK attempts on 25-man and are going to just clear the instance and allow our 10-mans to work on him separately. So it goes.

Yeah, I believe that happened, but I was getting a little overwhelmed by that point, and I wasn’t keeping good track of what was going on. Now that I’ve been in the fight, I should be able to keep a clearer head next time. I also intend to spend a part of tomorrow specifically reviewing Tankspot videos of all the ICC bosses, even the ones I’ve already cleared.

Yeeeeah, it is a little weird. There’s a lot of potential unfairness about the rules, and it seems weird that the second roll should be offspec only. It seems like it would be more fair to allow two rolls: one for mainspec, and you only get one of those rolls per run. The second roll, both offspec and mainspec can roll, but only if you’ve already used your mainspec roll. That way, if nobody speaks up for a mainspec roll, it still has a chance to go to a mainspec, and folks who haven’t used a mainspec roll yet can’t just gamble on a free secondary roll.

I think it’s just a weird situation I’m in; just about everything that drops in ICC is a major, major upgrade for me, and I’ve been very lucky in that a lot of caster loot, caster plate in particular, has been dropping. On the other hand, that should be much less of an issue now, since I’ve gotten so many 251 and 264 pieces already.
