New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Congratulations! I’m sure you know this already, but there are a lot of scams out there–don’t click on any links in the email itself. If it’s legit, you’ll have a Cata beta game listed among your games under your Battle.net account.

I’m in there, usually on my DK, Anathaemus, if you’re looking for a friendly Doper to answer questions. I’m on the Lost Isles (PvE) server.

BTW, I just got out to the Maelstrom today–is thiscool, or what?

I did say IIRC, apparently I didn’t. Sorry.

Oh, no, it’s not legit. I don’t think a real beta invite would come in-game from someone named “Jahanghsdfh” and send me to us.blizztests.com to register. I’s just whooshing.

I think I got THAT one just before bed last night, if it reads like it was written by a near-illiterate Uzbekistani using two translating dictionaries (Uzbecki to Arabic, Arabic to English) and choosing syntax by throwing darts.

I thought the level cap was 85! Or is it just being messed around with for the beta?

That’s a NPC that was added in merely to look cool. Someone had criticized the Maelstrom for not looking awesome enough, so one of the developers pretty much said ‘oh yeah? How about now?’ Note the naming - the NPC is “Epicus Maximus”, there’s a label for the raptor saying “And a Dinosaur”, etc.

Burned through a lot of ICC10 last night with some of the new guildies’ alts, including Daed’s. I gotta say, I’m liking the attitudes.

You mean the “what strats, just pull” attitude? Or was it the Vent conversation that somehow veered towards the pros and cons of crapping yourself vs. being stabbed? I still don’t know how that came up.

The general good humor. Including crapping yourself or being stabbed, or crapping yourself *and *being stabbed, possibly through the crap.

Yep. And above the Forsaken’s head, it says “ROCK ON” (he’s got the rockin’ Arcanite Reaper you could get for awhile from the special Karazhan boss)

I do so hope they keep this there when Cata goes live!

Haha! Glad that you’re enjoying yourself. We try hard not to take ourselves too seriously, and yet still clear content. It will be interesting to hear what you think of our more “seriousface” 25-man raids.

ETA: I hadn’t even thought about the combination of the two…

It’s all explained here
My night elf hunter on Argent Dawn has joined a guild called <Knights of Justice>, and the guild leader (his rank: King; my rank: Reeve) is going for a King Arthur kind of theme. So I ended up helping him run Razorfen Downs a couple times in hopes that the rare spawn Ragglesnout would appear and drop X’caliboar. No luck there, though, and I only had time to do two runs with him.

Later, a new level 1 guild member was complaining in gchat that some Hordie was in the human starting area killing him/her and other new characters - which really shouldn’t have been possible, since I doubt that everybody in the starting area was turning on their PvP flags, and this person insisted their own flag was “off”. I think they may have been yanking our chains, though, because a couple of us rode in there to investigate, and with my “detect humanoids” on I couldn’t locate any hostiles, and after riding all over the area around Northshire Abbey I didn’t see any evidence that players had been killed (i.e. skeletons on the ground). At level 44, I didn’t expect to be able to take out this alleged newb-killing Hordie, but I figured if he was killing unflagged players he must be hacking and I could report him. But, like I said, I didn’t find anybody, or any evidence that the events had actually happened.

I did, though, get to see a steady stream of gold spam warlocks being created. That was kind of interesting. They’d appear in front of that first questgiver, then turn and run across the road and immediately vanish into the hillside. So it appears they’re somehow making a beeline from Northshire to Stormwind, passing straight through all the intervening terrain.

Out of curiosity, I stood next to the spawn point and when one appeared I clicked on her and put my toon on /follow. I wanted to see what would happen with my toon when she ran into the hillside. Interestingly, as long as I stood there facing Ms. Ahgwrotysxil, she just stood there instead of immediately running off like the others. As soon as my toon turned his back on her, though, she was gone.

In any case, I’m astonished that Blizzard still hasn’t found a way to block that crap/close that exploit.

I stayed in vent to listen to the H-LK attempts on Wednesday. I really like the contrast–people are shutting up and getting shit done for progression fights, and fucking around and joking for farm content. That’s a good balance. Part of the problem with Proto was Vent during progression fights: a bunch of people joking around and not paying attention, and other people calling stuff out who weren’t leading the raid–sometimes contradicting what the RL was saying, or calling out things that were just plain wrong (like Valk/Defile order on LK).

I mentioned that it would be particularly terrible, with the sepsis and all. I think that was right when I was pulling the last group before the stairs up to the badge pinata Valk.

From a response to a ticket I got reporting some body spam the other day, they’re definitely waiting to clean it up sometimes to get more info on the people who are doing it. So it’s entirely possible that they’ve figured out a fix for the exploit, but they’re not putting it into place until they’ve tracked down a few more of the goldsellers.

Any Burning Dogs going to be online tonight? I’d like to see if Keyne is ready to handle heroics, but I don’t want to subject innocent pugs to his baby healing.

But why is the NPC in the player portrait slot? He’d show up to the right of the player’s portrait.

Or was this a Blizzard screenshot so they could do magical dev things?

I’d forgotten what pug queues are like for DPS, now that my ret paladin’s 71. I’ve been randoming with my guild on my hunter, and my healer has pretty short queues. He’s waiting to hit 72-73 so that he can start wearing the cobalt DPS set; I’ll wait until i have a cobalt tank set before I even think about tanking NR. Every time I think about that, I get the expression that this little gal has, in the one where she’s huddled in the corner.

Do ret paladins have any other ohshit buttons besides popping wings and trinkets? I was chatting to a raiding ret and those were the ones he listed, which seems a tad… low. As a hunter I have more than two buttons to mash when lust/hero goes off.

Nope, I snapped that one myself. You can even see my blood elf DK with the long white hair, standing two to the right of Thrall. The reason the portrait shows like that is because I cropped the screenshot to get rid of the non-awesome parts.

They have the ultimate ohshit buttin: the bubble-hearth. People won’t appreciate you using it in an instance, though

ohhai, i c wut u did thar.

Well, there are potions, too (though those are universal). Really, it’s not unusual to not have a whole bunch of CDs you can blast. When I’m Fury, the only thing I have to use is Death Wish. Recklessness is actually a DPS *loss *for me, unless I can squeeze it in somewhere that I have nothing else to do for that GCD.
