New Year's menu plans?

I haven’t seen oysters, caviar, and cold shrimp anywhere. There’s champagne though. Looks like those Playboy new year party tips I read are 20 years out of style.

As I’m coming out of a sinus infection, I saw little reason to bother with food that had flavour since I wouldn’t be able to detect it anyway. (One of the things I learned over the course of this particular bug: it is best to reserve sushi for those times when one actually has a sense of smell. :P) So I went to McD’s and snagged a Royale with Cheese, fries, and a couple apple pies. All rather disappointing even by McD’s standards: barely warm, dry burger w/ stale bun, etc. Still, not bad for sitting on the couch watching Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. (Especially the apple pies–those things are like pizza and sex. Even when they’re bad, they’re still pretty good.)

New Year’s eve I made a standing ribeye roast, broccoli rice & cheese casserole, green bean casserole and lots of bubbly before we went to some neighbor friends for more bubbly. I took a jar of dried apricots marinating in vodka and sugar to share.

Then New Year’s we had a roast turkey (too rainy for deep fryer) and some black eyed peas. Between those leftovers and a bunch of sweet chipotle venison sausage I’ve been cooking, we’re set for awhile. Tonite will be turkey, gravy and cheese open faced sammiches.

We were planning on getting some bulgogi and pho from our two favorite restaurants, but both were closed! We had to settle on a sampling of various Chinese dishes.
