New Year's plans...

New Year’s Eve I’ll be bolting the doors and waiting for the unholy event to pass.

New Years Day several family members will gather over at Mom & Pop’s for “peas & greens”, football on the telly, etc. NY Eve is also my folks anniversary so it’s a special time of year for them and they enjoy having us around.or so they say

Some friends of mine have hired a spot on the river foreshore (right on Matilda Bay, if any Perth people are reading this :)). There’s going to be a big marquee, a band and DJ.

There should be 100-200 people there, most of whom I’ll know. It sounds like a great night – I’m really looking forward to it!

Best thing is that they’re only charging $10 per person – BYO drinks! Weee!

My dad, my sister, my neice, and my husband’s ex-wife will come over for tons of appetizers, a couple movies, and some wine and champagne. It’s very low-key, and very nice.

FriendBill and friend of FriendBill will be going to DaveW0071 and Mrs Dave-Guy’s house.

Bring a movie, a snack food, a drink, and a game. FriendBill cannot get in the door without a bottle of white birch beer and some Cape Cod Salt & Vinegar potato chips for Mrs Dave-Guy…

Everyone picked their movie yet?

We’re staying home – alone. It will be our first New Year’s all alone…

A couple at our church has a tradition of hosting a New Years Eve open house from 9 to 12:30; we plan to drop by that for a while and then go down to Fayetteville Street Mall in Raleigh and watch the acorn drop.

(Raleigh, the “City of Oaks,” has a giant bronze acorn that adorns a pedestal in a downtown park 364 days a year, and is transported and lifted by a mobile crane on New Years Eve. It makes the descent, à la the Times Square ball, as the New Year countdown goes on. It was, if my information is correct, the first of a burgeoning number of “copycat” cities that do this – two years ago we watched a digital orange descend the side of a building in Miami. I’m curious what other cities do this sort of thing.)

I think she meant that one year everyone argues, the next year they don’t, then the year after that they argue, and the year after that they don’t, & so on & so forth. Since they argued last year, this is a non-arguing year.

My fiance and I aren’t going out this year. We’ll be making some snacks, popping open some champagne, and maybe some friends will stop in. We might even stay up 'til midnight. We’re such crazy kids…

Mr. Spooky and I always spend New Years Eve at home. I hate to be out driving on the highways on that night.

We will have lots of champagne and snacks, sit by the fire, play some music, and go outside once in a while to look at the stars and to listen for the coyotes. Oh, and we will relight the farolitos that are still up on the roof since Christmas Eve.

Happy 2003 to all my fellow Dopers! Best of luck to you all!

Motorgirl just beat me to it. That’s exactly right.

I have no idea why we seem to go in shifts, I’m just glad this is set to be a good year. hahaha

Now, I just need some good finger-foods! haha

Breezy, What time’s the party start?
Lemme see, if I leave NC in the morning… Hmm…

OK! (You gonna have booze right?)

Indygrrl in response to the OP I’ve just made plans.

Heading out with a friend (and her boyfriend and probably a few other friends) to the bar at which she usually bartends - she’ll actually be off that night, so she’ll get to enjoy the ambience, etc. - some chick is throwing a party, so it ought to be good fun.

And I, of course, will look fabu in my floor length, sleeveless, black velvet dress.

WHAT??!!

uh-oh
